    摘要: An optical repeating system includes an optical transmitter and a plurality of optical amplifying repeaters. The optical transmitter specifies a part or all of the optical amplifying repeaters, and transmits a supervisory command to the specified optical amplifying repeaters as a first sub-signal via an uplink or downlink optical transmission line. The supervisory command is a command to supervise internal circuits of the optical amplifying repeaters. Receiving the supervisory command addressed thereto via the uplink or downlink optical transmission line, the optical amplifying repeaters each transmit a supervisory signal indicating a supervisory result corresponding to the supervisory command to optical receivers via the uplink and downlink optical transmission lines as a second sub-signal. The optical system can reduce the time take to acquire the supervisory information about the plurality of the optical amplifying repeaters.

    摘要: A supervisory system and supervisory method of an optical amplifier repeater are proposed that can implement operation supervision taking account of the characteristics of individual supervisory targets of the optical amplifier repeater, thereby achieving higher reliability. The supervisory system includes an optical transmitter for transmitting an optical signal including an operation command to notify of a state of a supervisory target; an optical amplifier repeater that transmits a response optical signal including a response code obtained by measuring the supervisory target in response to the operation command; an optical receiver for receiving the response optical signal via an optical fiber and an information processing unit for converting the response code into a numerical form by using a predetermined expression that links the response code with measured information obtained by measuring in advance the supervisory target with an external measuring device during operation of the optical amplifier repeater in response to the operation command.

A optical modulating apparatus includes a splitter/combiner structured to split an intensity modulation signal inputted into a first input terminal into a first electric signal having an in-phase relationship with that of the intensity modulation signal and second electric signal having an inverse phase relationship therewith, split a phase modulation signal inputted into a second input terminal into a third electric signal having an in-phase relationship with that of the phase modulation signal an also a fourth electric signal having an in-phase relationship therewith, combine the first electric signal with the fourth electric signal to thereby output a first combined signal, and combine the second electric signal with the third electric signal to thereby output a second combined signal; and an optical modulating means structured to split a light carrier wave entered from a light source into two light carrier waves, and to optically modulate the two sets of the split light carrier waves by using the first combined signal and the second combined signal derived from the splitter/combiner, and combine the two phase-modulated above said light carrier waves to output an optical modulation signal.

    摘要: Detection of an optical pulse position uses an optical pulse string with a determined repetitive ratio and an electric clock signal with a same frequency as the repetitive ratio of the optical pulse string. A phase of the electric clock signal oscillator is shifted and supplied to an optical modulator. The optical modulator modulates the optical pulse string based on the electric clock signal and outputs a modulated optical signal. A photo detector converts the modulated optical signal output from the optical modulator to an electric signal. The phase shift amount of the electric clock signal is controlled to maximize an output from the photo detector. Additionally, a dither signal may be used in the control of the phase shift, more than the optical modulator may be employed, and/or more than color light source may be employed. The use of at least one of feed forward and feedback control provided by maximizing an output of the photo detector allows an optical pulse having a short width to be realized.

    摘要: A device for modulating optical short pulses, while preventing a pulse compression optical fiber from degradation of the transmission characteristics even if the length of the pulse compression optical fiber varies, utilizes an optical short pulse generator 1, a pulse compression optical fiber 2, an optical divider 3, a photodetector 6, an amplifier 7, a band pass filter 8, a phase comparator 9, a loop filter 11, and a driving signal generator 12. The loop which comprises loop filter 11 and driving signal generator 12 controls an oscillation frequency in a VCO 12-1 so that the phase of a compressed optical pulse fed to an optical intensity modulator 4 is identical to the phase of a data signal that is synchronized with a reference clock and used to modulate the compressed optical pulse. In this manner, the extinction ratio of the modulation output is not degraded even if the length of the pulse compression optical fiber 2 varies due to ambient temperature variations.
