摘要: A coating method that is capable of rapid curtain coating without causing "sagging" at high flow rates exceeding 4 cm.sup.3 /cm.sec. One or more layers of a coating solution are formed on a sliding surface, and a free falling curtain of the coating solution is allowed to impinge against a continuously running web. The web has a surface roughness of at least 0.3 .mu.m, the tip of the sliding surface forms an angle of 45.degree. to 120.degree. with respect to the horizontal, and the viscosity of the coating solution is adjusted to at least 90 cps for low shear rate, with the average for all layers formed being at least 80 cps.

摘要: A slide-hopper-type coating method in which the viscosity of the coating solution forming a free-falling curtain and the angle .alpha. which the front edge of the lip of the slide hopper forms with respect to the horizontal are selected with respect to the flow rate of the curtain in such a way that the line of contact between the curtain and the web is concave with respect to the direction in which the web travels. In addition, the angle .beta. which the extension of the curtain in the direction of its fall forms with respect to the direction of travel of the web at the point where the curtain is deposited on the web is preferably adjusted so that it is an obtuse angle not larger than 140.degree.. By satisfying these conditions, the coating method of the present invention is capable of extending the upper limit of coating speeds without causing "sagging" in the range of high flow quantities of coating solution per unit length of curtain coat width.

摘要: A curtain coating method and apparatus using a rotatable or slidable coating plate and in which a coating liquid freely falls in the form of a thin film from a hopper. The thin film collides with a web continuously running and circumferentially turning around a backup roller to coat the web. The coating plate is rotated or slid to retract so that the freely falling coating liquid reaches the web so as to coat the web after the freely falling coating liquid flows along a checking plate which is doglegged in section and provided on a forward end of the coating plate, thereby coating the web with an even thickness at the start of coating operations.

摘要: In a perpendicular magnetic recording head comprising a main magnetic pole layer and a return yoke layer which are laminated with a magnetic gap layer interposed therebetween, a nonmagnetic throat height determining layer and a return yoke reinforcement layer made of a magnetic material having a saturated magnetic flux density higher than that of the return yoke layer are provided on the magnetic gap layer. The nonmagnetic throat height determining layer has a front end face parallel to the medium-opposing surface at a position retracted by a desirable throat height from the medium-opposing surface. The return yoke reinforcement layer is formed directly under the return yoke layer so as to extend at least from the front end face of the nonmagnetic throat height determining layer to the upper face thereof, and is exposed at the medium-opposing surface between the magnetic gap layer and return yoke layer.

摘要: A concave portion is formed on the end surface of a main magnet pole layer on the trailing side. A convex portion is formed on the end surface of a return yoke layer on the leading side, which opposes the concave portion formed on the end surface of the main magnet pole layer on the trailing side, and the distance (gap length) between the main magnet pole layer and the return yoke layer in the direction of the film thickness is constant. Consequently, the magnetic field generating from the main magnet pole layer toward the recording medium is appropriately prevented from isotropically spreading in the trailing direction, and the width of magnetization reversal between the recording patterns, which are magnetized reversely from each other, can be reduced over the entire area.

摘要: The object of this invention is to have shorter sealing chambers (preheating chamber and gradual cooling chamber) located before and after the brazing atmospheric chamber, to make higher sealing of the atmosphere, and to prevent the scratch caused by the conventional curtains made of metal or others. In order for that, the structures made of steel or graphite are installed standing perpendicular to the moving direction on the conveyor belt which is circulating through the atmospheric furnace. And the bendable or flexible sealing materials are installed on the ceiling and on the right and left side walls of the sealing chambers (preheating chamber and gradual cooling chamber), which are located before and after the atmospheric furnace, into the above two chambers, and making these bendable or flexible sealing materials have rubbing contact with the above mentioned structures.
