The invention relates to a composite insect attractant for male white-line dart moths [Scotia segetum] containing 7[Z]-dodecen-l-ol acetate of the formula [I] ##STR1## and 9[Z]-tetradecen-l-ol acetate of the formula [II] ##STR2## as active agents in a weight ratio of I to II of [50-99]:[50-1], optionally along with a liquid or solid adjuvant.Another object of the invention is an insect trap containing said composition and a process for attracting and trapping male white-line dart moths as well as a process for disrupting their mating by air permeation technique. The invention relates further to a novel process for the preparation of the active ingredients of the composition.

The invention relates to a composite insect attractant for male cabbage moths (Mamestra brassicae) containing (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate and (Z)-11-heptadecenyl acetate as active agents in a weight ratio of 70 to 90:80 to 1, optionally along with a liquid or solid adjuvant. An insect trap can contain the composition which is used for attracting and trapping cabbage moth. Their mating is disrupted by air permeation techniques. (Z)-11-heptadecenyl acetate is a synergistically active new compound. The composition according to the invention produces a significantly stronger stimulating reaction on male cabbage moths than the known sex lure compositions.

The present invention provides mainly (3Z,6Z)-cis-9,10-epoxy-1,3,6-heneicosatriene (formula 1) and (3Z, 6Z)-cis-9,10-epoxy-1,3,6-elcosatriene (formula 2) which are Hyphantria cunea sex pheromones. The invention provides attractant components having high attraction effect for Hyphantria cunea, that is, Hyphantria cumea sex pheromones having high attraction activity and the intermediates which can selectively synthesize such pheromones with great ease.Furthermore, the invention provides attractant compositions with high attraction effect for Hyphantria cunea including such above noted pheromones.Consequently, this invention is completed. ##STR1##

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of .alpha.- and .gamma.-interferon by isolating the buffy coat fraction of blood, removing the erythrocytes, suspending the leukocytes in a suitable nutrient medium and treating with an .alpha.-interferon inducer and with a .gamma.-interferon inducer, which comprises producing .alpha.-interferon and .gamma.-interferon one after the other in the same leukocyte culture by pre-treating the suspension obtained after the separation of the leukocyte/buffy coat/fraction of blood, removal of the erythrocytes and suspending the leukocytes in a suitable nutrient medium with - or .beta.-interferon, contacting with an .alpha.-interferon inducer, separating the liquid containing the .alpha.-interferon from the cells, if desired recovering the -interferon, washing and suspending the cells in a suitable nutrient medium, treating with a mitogenic agent, separating the liquid comprising .alpha.-interferon from the cells and if desired recovering .alpha.-interferon and if desired making .alpha.-interferon free of .alpha.-interferon.The advantage of the process is that .alpha.- and .gamma.-interferon are produced from the same leukocyte culture in two steps. This makes the process more economical and enables an effective utilization of the limitedly available leukocytes.
