In a device which excites an oscillating signal in a closed loop containing a delay circuit and a filter so as to synthesize a sound of pitch corresponding to the total delay time in the closed loop, arithmetic operations are performed in the closed loop, in response to a change in a color controlling coefficient caused during generation of the sound, for interpolating delayed output signals from plural points in the loop having different delay time. This interpolation compensates for a variation in the signal delay time in the closed loop resultant from the change in the filter coefficient, to allow the entire closed loop to provide such a total delay time that excites oscillation corresponding to a desired pitch. The closed loop also includes first and second filters. When generation of the sound is to be started, the delay time adjustment or pitch modification is performed by using, as the first filter, an all-pass filter that has the advantage of having no adverse effect on the frequency characteristic of sound. During generation of the sound, so as to avoid the adverse effect resultant from a variation in the coefficient of the all-pass filter, variable control of the delay time or variation control of the pitch is performed by using, as the second filter, a low-pass filter that functions as a delay interpolator.

An electronic musical instrument: is provided to perform an active control on the pitch of the musical tone to be generated, thereby simulating the pitch-rising phenomenon to be occurred in the performance of a non-electronic musical instrument such as a wind instrument, percussion instrument and stringed instrument. In case of the simulation of the wind instrument, this electronic musical instrument is mainly configured by an excitation-vibration circuit and a tube simulation circuit which are connected together by means of a junction. The tube simulation circuit is configured by a closed-loop circuit in which plural delay circuits and junction circuits are connected together in cascade-connection manner. Herein, the delay circuits simulate the propagation delay of the air-pressure wave to be transmitted through the tube of the wind instrument, while the junction circuits simulate the scattering manner of the air-pressure wave at the points at which the diameter of the tube is changed. The number of the delay stages which are required to simulate the musical sound is controlled to be changed in a lapse of time.

The musical tone synthesizing apparatus simulating the wind instrument synthesizes a musical tone signal to thereby generate a musical tone corresponding to the wind instrument tone. Herein, the musical tone synthesizing apparatus contains one or more stages each including a bi-directional transmission circuit and a junction. In each stage, the progressive wave signal is delayed by the predetermined delay time and transmitted to the junction. The junction multiplies the signal by first coefficient, whereby the result of multiplication is transmitted to the next stage. The junction also multiplies the progressive wave signal by second coefficient, whereby the result of multiplication is fed back to the prior stage. The first and second coefficients are changed over according to an operation of a tone hole to be provided in the wind instrument. Thus, the musical tone of the wind instrument can be simulated with simple circuit or software.

A tone signal control system for controlling a tone signal supplied from a tone generator. The tone signal control system includes a CPU for executing a computational and control operation in accordance with an externally stored program, a DSP for executing a computational and control operation in accordance with an internally stored program, a memory accessible by both CPU and DSP, and an access controller for controlling an access by CPU and DSP to the memory. The access controller calculates a logical product of a clock signal, an access signal from CPU, and an access signal from DSP, and outputs the logical product as a CPU wait signal. The tone signal control system is not required to increase the number of pins too many even if CPU and DSP are assembled on a single chip.
