摘要: A liquid crystal display according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: first and second substrates opposed to each other; a liquid crystal layer including liquid crystal molecules interposed between the first and second substrates; a gate line formed on the first substrate and transmitting a gate signal; first and second data lines formed on the first substrate and transmitting first and second data voltages having different polarities; a first switching element connected to the gate line and the first data line; a second switching element connected to the gate line and the second data line; and first and second pixel electrodes that are connected to the first and second switching elements, respectively, and separated from each other, wherein the liquid crystal layer has positive dielectric anisotropy.

摘要: An array substrate includes a first pixel electrode and a second pixel electrode. The first pixel electrode includes first branch electrode portions and second branch electrode portions. The first branch electrode portions are disposed in a first area of a unit pixel area and are substantially parallel to a first side of the unit pixel area. The second branch electrode portions are disposed in a second area of the unit pixel area and are substantially parallel to a second side of the unit pixel area. The second pixel electrode includes third branch electrode portions disposed between the first branch electrode portions and fourth branch electrode portions disposed between the second branch electrode portions.

摘要: A display apparatus according to one or more embodiments includes an array substrate and an opposite substrate facing the array substrate. Pixels areas are defined in the array substrate, and each pixel area includes a pixel electrode having concave-convex patterns at the edges thereof when viewed in a plan view. The concave-convex patterns vary directions of fringe fields generated from the edges of the pixel electrode, so that an area in which a fringe field is formed relative to one pixel area may be prevented from overlapping with a peripheral pixel area.

摘要: A vertical alignment liquid crystal display includes two sub-pixels each with a variable capacitor. A pixel is bisected into a high gray sub-pixel and a low gray sub-pixel through forming a variable capacitor at each sub-pixel. With this structure, the sub-pixels express different grays so that lateral visibility is enhanced. It is not required in bisecting a pixel into two sub-pixels to form separate wires for applying different signals thereto, and the amount of data to be processed at the driver for driving the display device is reduced. Furthermore, a pixel is bisected into two sub-pixels with variable capacitors in a simplified manner, and it is not required to form additional wires and elements, so the aperture ratio is enhanced.
