摘要: Systems and methods are provided for minimizing cable and off-air signal detection on separate cable and off-air input jacks in a set-top terminal with two or more tuners. The systems and methods employ logic to progress through different scan configurations with different input jack/signal detection assignments to minimize signal detection delay. Tuners are pooled for a given input jack/signal assignment, scanned frequencies are queued and carried to the next scan configuration, and user input is employed, whenever possible. The systems and methods are of particular value for retail applications, where users may install cable, off-air, or both sources incorrectly to their set-top terminal's cable and off-air input jacks.

摘要: A system for securely authenticating software Application Program Interfaces (APIs) includes a handshake protocol that enables promulgation of licensing rights controlling Intellectual Property (IP) to multiple Actors. The handshake is a Challenge-Response protocol that includes a Challenge issued by one Actor who controls IP rights to verify a second Actor has Licensed IP rights when the second Actor Response includes use of a function IPF1. The function e.g. IPF1 is provided through the IP licensing agreement. Other Actors who wish to use software that the first Actor provides will be encouraged to acquire rights to the IP License to obtain the function IPF1 for access. Subsequent Actors who have IP rights controlled by another function IPF2 can be pulled into the same IP Licensing system, or another IP License that becomes part of the same ecosystem with the system controlled using function IPF1.

摘要: A surge protection circuit having an open circuit voltage surge protector, such as a gas discharge tube (GDT), a closed circuit current surge protector, such as a thermistor, and a thyristor. The GDT has a breakdown voltage that is at least a first defined amount higher than an anticipated highest peak voltage. The thermistor has a series resistance associated with a series resistance of electrical equipment being protected and a breakdown voltage that is at least a second defined amount higher than an impulse voltage (voltage required to excite the GDT based on the breakdown voltage) for the GDT. The thyristor has a rated peak current at least a third defined amount greater than a peak current for the thermistor.

摘要: A method is disclosed for checking HDCP link integrity in a High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) transmitter. From an HDCP receiver communicatively coupled to the HDCP transmitter by an HDCP-protected interface, a single-bit value indicative of HDCP 1.1 feature support is read. When the single-bit value is true, HDCP Enhanced Link Verification is used in the HDCP transmitter. When the single-bit value is false, the method determines whether the HDMI receiver supports HDCP Enhanced Link Verification, and if so, HDCP Enhanced Link Verification is used in the HDCP transmitter.

摘要: Apparatus and methods for reducing the tune-time delay in a television appliance having a PVR subsystem are provided. A first signal path provides a desired television signal for display without a PVR associated tune-time delay. The first signal path includes a first buffer for buffering the television signal and a decoder for decoding the buffered television signal for display. The second signal path includes a storage device for storing a copy of the buffered television signal, and a second buffer for buffering the stored television signal when a trick play mode is selected. The decoder decodes the buffered television signal to provide the requested trick play mode. A switch is provided under control of the processor for switching between display of the television signal via the first path and display of the trick play mode via the second path.

摘要: A media content item is evaluated for its “sentiment states.” That is, segments of the content item are determined to be, for example, “happy,” “exciting,” “sad,” “funny,” and the like. A “sentiment map” is created that delimits segments of the content item and contains the sentiment-state keywords associated with the segments. Some maps include an amplitude for each assigned sentiment keyword and a confidence value for the segment delimitation and for each keyword. As an exemplary use of the sentiment map, an advertisement broker matches the sentiments of his advertisement offerings with segments of a content item in order to place appropriate advertisements at times when they would be most favorably received. In another example, a recommender system recommends to a user a content item whose sentiment map compares favorably to that of a content item already enjoyed by the user.

摘要: A statistical multiplexer (statmux) system for encoding and multiplexing multiple channels of digital television data is provided that limits dropped bits due to misalignment of bit rate allocations to the encoders. Without such a system, if for example an encoder is allotted 0 bits during a first time period and 20 kilobits during a second time period, if the encoder jumps ahead from the first period to the second time period allocation, the 20 kilobits could be output during the 0 bit output allocation time period. This can cause buffer overflow downstream if other encoders are outputting at their maximum rate. To limit such misalignment, a maximum percentage increase of an encoder's bitrate allocation is set from time period to time period based on a formula to prevent bits from being dropped when misalignment occurs.
