    摘要: A printing system having an electric circuit supplying an output potential to assist transfer of ink to a dielectric substrate, the potential being gradually increased up to a breakdown potential of the substrate, for example of a rate of 10 percent per hour. Each time breakdown potential is reached, the applied potential is set back 10 percent and the increase started again, so that the applied potential will follow variations in the breakdown potential of the substrate. A severe fault in the substrate results in removal of the output potential during a timed interval followed by a rapid potential buildup toward breakdown potential, after which the normal cycle is resumed.

    摘要: A method for conducting a proofing operation of a rotogravure printing cylinder includes preparation of a steel drum having in sequence from the outer steel surface a layer of plastic such as Mylar.RTM., a blanket consisting of a rubber composite material, a paper/foil layer with the foil side facing outwardly, and a proofing sheet consisting of normal printing paper. The rotogravure cylinder which is to be proofed is brought into contact with the thus-prepared drum, and a high voltage is applied to the foil via the proofing sheet. The rotogravure cylinder is inked and rotated through one printing revolution so that a complete impression is made on the proofing sheet. The high voltage assists in the transfer of ink from the cups of the rotogravure cylinder to the proofing sheet. The impression produced by the rotogravure cylinder can then be checked before the rotogravure cylinder is sent to a user.

    摘要: In an illustrated embodiment scanner signals produced by marks of varying intensity on a moving web are effectively transmitted by self-biased capacitively coupled field effect transistors without overloading. The scanner circuit reliably responds to scanner pulses of variable duration and frequency over a wide range without readjustment and includes an inverted current restorer for driving an output transistor stage while providing substantial noise rejection. A servo motor is operable to adjust web errors as signified by the phase of the scanner signal relative to a reference signal, and a thyristor controlled bidirectional drive for the servo motor responds to excessive back voltage due to overrunning of the motor to automatically reverse energize the motor. Preferably the timing circuit for the thyristor is coordinated with the input alternating current power to insure that initial turn on of the thyristor in each cycle will accomodate a maximum error signal to the motor.
