Abstract:
An oscillating roller system for a beverage can decorator is driven back and forth by a cam follower. A cam body having a cam is mounted to a frame of the inker system. Three oscillating cam roller assemblies are positioned about the cam body. Rotation of the cam oscillates the cam followers for each one of the oscillating rollers. Bearings of the oscillating roller assemblies includes an inlet gallery and outlet gallery for a closed loop lubrication system. The rollers are water cooled.

Abstract:
Systems and methods for aligning preprinted images on a roll of substrate to the moving components of a web press are disclosed. A method in accordance with one embodiment includes determining the speed of the moving components of the press, determining the speed of the web of preprinted images and adjusting the speed of the web of preprinted image to match the speed of the web. In particular embodiments, a press which produces rolls of preprinted material can be modified to change the equivalent cutoff length of the press. In further embodiments, a method of pasting new rolls of material to expiring rolls of material is accomplished by modulating the drive speed of the new roll of material to match the expiring roll of material while at the same time aligning the images on the new roll with the expiring roll.
Abstract:
A printing system for printing on a web of media traveling along a web transport path including a plurality of print stations located along the web transport path, each print station including a printing cylinder having a printing cylinder circumference for printing on the web of media at a corresponding print location. A plurality of web-transport rollers are used to guide the web of media along the web transport path. The printing system includes one or more constrained driven rollers having an affixed driven gear, the driven gear being driven by a motor using a gear train including one or more drive gears which transfer torque from the motor to the driven gear, wherein the driven gear and the drive gears associated with the constrained driven rollers are constrained to have a rotate an integer number of times for every rotation of the printing cylinders.
Abstract:
A system for reducing tension fluctuations in a web while printing multiple copies of a print job on the web comprises a printing system with a print station disposed opposite a first side of the web and one or more rollers adapted to receive tension control commands, the tension control commands operating on the first rollers to control the amount of tension in the web. A sensor is used to measure tension changes produced during the printing of the first copy of the print job. A processor is used to determine first tension control adjustments based on the measured tension changes and to use the adjustments to adjust the tension control commands to the rollers in the printing system to change the tension in the web when printing a second copy of the print job, thereby reducing tension fluctuations in the web.
Abstract:
A method for axis correction in a processing machine, in particular a shaftless printing machine, has at least one axis for processing and/or transporting a material, at least one detection device for detecting a processing parameter and at least one controller device for calculating a controller output variable for axis correction of the at least one axis using the detected processing parameter. The method is implemented iteratively, with the result that feedforward control output values for the feedforward control of the axis correction are determined during an (n+1)-th change in rotation speed of the at least one axis using observation of the controller output variable and/or the processing parameter during an n-th change in rotation speed of the at least one axis.

Abstract:
An image-forming device includes a conveying part, an image-forming part, first through third sensors, and a control part. The conveying part is configured and arranged to convey a continuous recording material. The image-forming part is configured and arranged to form an image on the recording material conveyed by the conveying part. The first through third sensors are configured and arranged to detect positions of an edge surface of the recording material conveyed by the conveying part. The control part is configured to calculate first through third shifting amounts based on the positions of the edge surface of the recording material simultaneously detected by the first through third sensors, respectively. The first shifting amount is generated by movement of the recording material, the second shifting amount is generated by rotation of the recording material, and the third shifting amount is generated by fluctuations in the edge surface of the recording material.
