    摘要: A cable clamp adapted for use in cable-stretching installations. The cable clamp includes stationary and swingable clamp assemblies where the swingable assembly is connected to the stationary assembly for swinging movement with respect thereto between clamping and unclamping positions. The stationary assembly is formed as a power cylinder for a piston guided for movement toward the swingable assembly and urging a lining which directly engages the cable toward a corresponding lining carried by the swingable assembly.

    摘要: A power plant, such as a nuclear power plant, and a method for generating peak power therein. The power plant has a thermal accumulator installation composed of main and superheat accumulators so that after the latter are charged steam for peakpower purposes may be derived therefrom in order to operate a turbine through steam generators and superheaters connected to the accumulators through conduits which operate at different pressure-and-temperature levels. The contents of at least some of the accumulators are circulated by a circulating means a plurality of times through the latter accumulators with the circulated contents of any one accumulator being successively directed to flow paths of progressively lower pressure-andtemperature levels during successive circulations of its contents therethrough.

    摘要: A metal-treating apparatus which includes a vessel in which metal is refined and a waste-gas conduit which receives gas issuing from the vessel. Between the latter conduit and the top end of the vessel is a ring assembly which is movable along the end of the waste-gas conduit adjacent the vessel between a closed position engaging the vessel and an open position spaced therefrom. A structure which surrounds the waste-gas conduit defines a chamber in which the top end of the ring assembly is located even when the latter is in its closed position, and in this closed position the ring assembly defines with this latter structure and with the waste-gas conduit a pair of gaps through which any waste gas which seeks to escape while flowing into the waste-gas conduit must flow while changing its direction at least twice.

    摘要: A gas-collecting hood is arranged over the circular outlet or mouth of a top-blown steel-making converter. This hood comprises a cylindrical tube or duct with a smaller diameter than the mouth coaxial therewith. The tube is fitted with an outer trough which opens downwardly and sustains a crown vortex feeding back into the main stream. This trough has an outer wall or apron whose diameter is greater than that of the mouth and whose lower periphery is positioned below the bottom end of the tube, while being spaced above the converter.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for preventing the vaporization of a cooling liquid used in a boiler which is heated by waste gases from a converter. A circulating pump pumps a constant amount of cooling liquid through a system which includes in addition to the boiler and the pump a heat exchanger in which the liquid is cooled after leaving the boiler and a reservoir which receives the cooled liquid from the heat exchanger and which supplies the liquid to the circulating pump. A compensating or equalizing expansion tank communicates with the reservoir and maintains over a liquid which is in this latter tank a cushion of a noncorrosive gas. As the temperature of the liquid rises, the pressure of the gas in this cushion also rises, so that the pressure of the liquid rises, thus raising the boiling point thereof in such a way as to prevent vaporizing of the liquid. The liquid is continuously circulated during the off-blow as well as during the blow periods of each cycle, so that by the time the end of an off-blow has been reached, the cooling liquid has been cooled down to the temperature which it had initially at the beginning of the blow period.
