摘要: A method for preparing a femoral neck for receiving a neck implant includes resecting a femoral head from a femoral neck of a patient according to a pre-operative patient-specific plan. The method also includes removing only cancellous bone from the femoral neck and proximal femoral bone of the patient using a patient-specific broach. The patient-specific broach has a three-dimensional cutting surface matching as a negative mold a cortical/cancellous bone interface surface of the femoral neck of the patient.

摘要: A method for preparing a femoral neck for receiving a neck implant includes obtaining image data of a proximal femoral bone and femoral neck of a patient by a medical imaging method and constructing a three-dimensional image model of the proximal femoral bone and neck of the patient using the image data. The method further includes identifying a three-dimensional cortical boundary surface at an interface between cortical and cancellous bone of the patient using the image model. A patient-specific broach having a three-dimensional cutting surface closely matching and complementary to the cortical boundary surface of the patient using the image model is designed and manufactured.

摘要: A temporary neck for a hip joint prosthesis comprising a mechanism that will allow the length of the temporary neck to be varied while in place, during implant surgery and after the stem and base of a permanent prosthesis have been positioned. In one best mode the variation in length is driven by rotating a pinion gear that engages a rack gear connected to the interior of the side walls of a moveable unit, and the ball is connected by a stud to the front wall of the moveable unit; thus the ball moves the same distance as the moveable unit, and that distance is a direct function of gear tooth spacing and number of rotations of the gear. In an alternative mechanism, a threaded drive axle (worm gear) moves in response rotation an adjustment base (wheel gear) in which the base comprises a drive disk with a female, threaded bore. The axle is secured to the pressure disk at one end and free at the other. The position of the drive disk (hence bore) is static; thus as the drive disk rotates and the threads are engaged, the pressure disk moves and the ball moves with it. Both devices include visual references to determine precisely the distance that has been traveled (generally in mm).

摘要: A modular prosthesis that may be implanted in a highly minimally invasive manner. Specifically, the modular prosthesis may include a neck and an anchor. Both the neck and the anchor are configured to be inserted and connected together through a lateral aspect of a long bone adjacent to the proximal end of the long bone. In one exemplary embodiment, the neck includes a body having a head end, configured for attachment to another prosthetic component, such as a corresponding articulating component, and an aperture extending therethrough. The anchor may be sized for receipt within the aperture formed in the neck. Additionally, the anchor may be configured such that the anchor engages the walls forming the aperture in the neck to secure the components together.

摘要: A femur head implant has an oblique neck. A ball portion of a hip joint is connected to a first neck end. A femur head hollow portion is connected to a second end of the oblique neck. A tubular shell is connected to a lower end of the hollow portion. A slot in the tubular shell permits changes in the inside diameter of a femur shaft passage through the tubular shell. Screws are tightened to reduce the inside diameter and clamp the implant to a femur shaft that is received in the shaft passage and extends into the femur head hollow portion. Passages are provided in the hollow portion for the insertion of bone cement into the hollow portion and the escape of gas from the hollow portion.
