摘要: The present invention provides processes for combined applications of making grooves on an implant surface, applying MgO nanoparticles with PMMA cement, restricting the cement movement by PCL nanofiber and tethering biomolecules with PCL nanofiber to enhance mechanical stability and osseointegration of PMMA cement with bone. This is achieved through enhanced osteoconductive properties, roughness, and less viable fracture originating sites at the bone-cement interface. Such combined applications of nanoparticle and nanofiber on the mechanical stability and osseointegration of cemented implant is heretofore unknown, but as provided by the present invention can solve the debonding problem of cemented implant from bone.

摘要: A method of performing joint arthroplasty includes preparing a flat surface on a long bone, providing an instrument having a body and a punch extending from the body, the punch including a portion thereof having a shape similar to a stem of an implant, positioning a stop on the flat surface, rotating the stop with respect to the surface of the long bone based upon an indicia on one of the body and the stop so as to position the punch rotationally with respect to the surface to a desired orientation when the instrument is at least partially inserted into the stop, using the instrument to form a cavity in the long bone with the punch at the desired rotational orientation with the instrument inserted at least partially within the stop, the cavity having a shape similar to the stem of the implant, and implanting the stem into the cavity.

The femoral prosthesis includes an implant body having a proximal end and a distal end and a shoulder at the proximal end, the shoulder being structured and dimensioned for a tight press fit into the neck of a femur. The implant body includes a trunk at the distal end, the trunk having a wedge formed by a tapered portion extending in the direction of the distal end of the implant, body. The implant, body also includes a medial column extending from the shoulder toward the distal end and a lateral column extending from the shoulder toward the distal end. The wedge, the medial column, and the lateral column to provide multi-planar stability for the implant body and surface area for fixation of the implant body.

摘要: A method for generating a patient-specific prosthetic implant is disclosed which includes generating, using one or more processors from a medical image of a human anatomical feature, a three dimensional electronic representation of the human anatomical feature including size and surface curvature features matching the human anatomical feature, the surface curvature features including one or more radii of curvature on an outer camming surface of the human anatomical feature. A prosthetic implant template is selected, using the one or more processors, from a database of prosthetic implant templates, and the custom implant is virtually designed to imitate the size and surface curvature features of the three dimensional electronic representation based on the selected prosthetic implant template. Fit of the custom implant is tested, virtually using the one or more processors, using the three dimensional electronic representation of the human anatomical feature.

摘要: An arthroplasty plate and method of use to repair a fractured end of a bone are described. The arthroplasty plate comprises a fixation plate arranged to be secured to a surface of a bone and a connector assembly comprising a barrel extending from the fixation plate and having a bore which opens through the fixation plate. A connector rod is arranged to slide within the bore of the barrel. An articulation component comprises a bearing surface coupled to or arranged to couple to an end of the connector rod which extends from the barrel away from the fixation plate. The connector assembly incorporates an adjustment mechanism arranged to cause the connector rod to slide into or out of the barrel and a locking mechanism arranged to lock the position of the connector rod within the barrel to rigidly space the articulation component apart from the fixation plate.

摘要: A method of designing a prosthetic implant. Exemplary methods may include developing a three-dimensional model of an anatomic feature from one or more two-dimensional images. The three-dimensional model may include a plurality of radii of curvature representing the shape of respective portions of a contact surface. In some exemplary embodiments, three-dimensional models associated with a large number members of a population may be utilized to create templates for prosthetic implants. A three-dimensional model of an anatomic feature of a patient may be compared to the available templates, and a suitable template may be tested by virtually implanting the template on the three-dimensional model of the patient's anatomical feature. In some embodiments, a patient's three-dimensional model for which a suitable pre-made template is not available may be used to customize a pre-made template to design a suitable implant.

摘要: An implantable medical device for implantation in a mammal joint having at least two contacting surfaces is provided. The medical device comprises; an artificial contacting surface adapted to replace at least the surface of at least one of the mammal's joint contacting surfaces, wherein the artificial contacting surface is adapted to be lubricated, when implanted in said joint. Furthermore the medical device comprises at least one inlet adapted to receive a lubricating fluid from a reservoir, at least one channel at least partly integrated in the artificial contacting surface in connection with the at least one inlet for distributing the lubricating fluid to the surface of the artificial contacting surface. The medical device could be adapted to be operable by an operation device to receive the distributed lubricated fluid from a reservoir.
