摘要:
Described herein are absorbent articles and methods of making such articles. The articles are made by bonding a copolymer onto a substrate to form a core. The absorbent articles are particularly useful in personal care product, e.g., disposable hygiene products.
摘要:
An absorbent article can have a topsheet, a backsheet, and an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet. In some aspects, at least one of the topsheet, backsheet, and absorbent core is stretchable. In other aspects, the absorbent core can comprise layers, at least one of which includes substantially the superabsorbent material only and at least one of which includes substantially fluff only. In some aspects, the article includes superabsorbent material having a surface additive that includes a surface crosslinking agent, a water-insoluble inorganic metal compound and a polymeric coating.
摘要:
A process for making an absorbent material involves flash-drying a superabsorbent polymer precursor composition. The process may be used to make a superabsorbent-fiber material without the necessity of mixing conventional superabsorbent solid particles with pulp fluff is provided. The synthesis (i.e., polymerization) of the superabsorbent is completely integrated into the process for forming the absorbent material. One or more streams of superabsorbent polymer precursor composition are provided, to which a plurality of individual fibers may be added. The resulting in-situ polymerized superabsorbent-fiber material is then flash-dried and can subsequently be formed into a superabsorbent-fiber composite. The flash-drying is relatively inexpensive and requires little drying time compared to conventional drying methods.
摘要:
Absorbent polymeric macrostructures that are porous and comprise an interparticle crosslinked aggregate having a circumscribed dry volume greater than about 10.0 mm.sup.3. The interparticle crosslinked aggregate comprises a multiplicity of precursor particles of substantially water-insoluble, absorbent, hydrogel-forming, polymer material; and an interparticle crosslinking agent reacted with the polymer material of the precursor particles to form crosslink bonds between the precursor particles. Because of the particulate nature of the precursor particles, the macrostructure has pores between adjacent precursor particles. The pores are interconnected by intercommunicating channels such that the macrostructure is liquid permeable.
摘要:
Absorbent articles including an absorbent material that contains superabsorbent polymer non-adhesively attached to and restrained by a nonwoven. The material, used particularly in isolated portions of the absorbent articles of the invention, has a superabsorbent retention of at least 50% according to a stirbar retention test. Examples of such absorbent articles include pant-like garments with containment flaps and/or side panels made of the absorbent material. Other examples include swim wear garments containing the absorbent material.

There is disclosed a process which comprises:(a) applying an aqueous solution comprising a salt of acrylic or methacrylic acid to an aggregation of fibers;(b) irradiating said aggregation containing said aqueous solution with electromagnetic or corpuscular ionizing radiation to convert said salt of acrylic or methacrylic acid to a water-swellable polymer;(c) individualizing the fibers to disperse the fibers and the said water-swellable polymer;(d) collecting the individualized fibers and water-swellable polymer in the form of a fluffy batt of fibers having distributed therethrough isolated portions of water-swellable polymer affixed to individual fibers or to small groups of fibers.

A method is provided for applying a superabsorbent polymer to a fibrous sheet material. The fibrous sheet material may be a nonwoven material or a tissue paper. The method includes applying a crosslinkable polymeric dispersion or solution onto the fibrous sheet material by printing technique and in a separate step applying a crosslinking agent onto the fibrous sheet material by printing technique, wherein said crosslinking agent accomplishes crosslinking of the crosslinkable polymer to form a superabsorbent material. A tissue or nonwoven product-includes at least two plies that are bonded together, wherein a crosslinked superabsorbent material is applied in a printed pattern between the plies, said tissue or nonwoven product having a DIN54540 Water Absorption between 15 and 100 g/g.

There is disclosed the process of incorporating a deodorant powder (of various mechanisms of action) into a hydrophilic, swellable, water-insoluble absorbent crosslinked polymer, which swellable polymer is coated on a thin, flexible, substrate e.g. a non-woven web, a paper tissue, or a water-insensitive film, and the resultant flexible structures which contain the deodorant powders, held in a dust-free stable manner, and their use as one or more components of body fluid absorbent structures such as sanitary napkins.

A laminated structure in which a superabsorbent material is provided as a layer of discrete discontinuous chunks or elements attached to a continuous porous support layer. The superabsorbent element is provided by saturating a porous substrate with an acrylic acid monomer solution, polymerizing and crosslinking the monomer in the web, and then dicing the monomer/web substrate to produce discrete superabsorbent elements. The superabsorbent elements having various shaped are then affixed to the flexible porous support layer by friction so as to provide the flexible superabsorbent laminated structure.
