摘要: Disclosed are modified pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) peptides, particulate carrier prodrugs thereof, and pharmaceutical compositions comprising the peptides or particulate carrier prodrugs. The peptides, particulate carrier prodrugs, and pharmaceutical compositions may be used to treat diseases and disorders that are amenable to treatment with anti-angiogenic agents, anti-tumorigenic agents, anti-fibrotic agents, chemotherapy-protecting agents, and immune stimulating agents.

摘要: The present invention generally relates to polymers and macromolecules, in particular, to polymers useful in particles such as nanoparticles. One aspect of the invention is directed to a method of developing nanoparticles with desired properties. In one set of embodiments, the method includes producing libraries of nanoparticles having highly controlled properties, which can be formed by mixing together two or more macromolecules in different ratios. One or more of the macromolecules may be a polymeric conjugate of a moiety to a biocompatible polymer. In some cases, the nanoparticle may contain a drug. Other aspects of the invention are directed to methods using nanoparticle libraries.

摘要: Pharmaceutical composition containing poly(bile) acid (PBA) polymers for oral delivery of agent(s) show enhanced uptake by the pancreas, liver, and colon. These nanoparticles show significant retention in the pancreas and colon and are therefore useful for selective delivery. The examples demonstrate efficacy of oral administration of insulin to treat diabetes, and oral induction of tolerance by administration of insulin or ovalbumin in combination with rapamycin. Diabetic animals treated with the insulin or insulin with rapamycin showed normalization of blood glucose levels.

摘要: A new nanoscale carrier made by one or more pH-sensitive peptides is provided for delivery of a biologically active substance. The peptides are composed of pH-sensitive hydrophilic and hydrophobic amino acids in the backbone. As the pH environment changes from physiological pH level to a weakly acidic environment such as near a tumor site (pH.about.6.5-6.9), the peptides may dissolve, releasing the biological substance. Also provided are the delivery methods and related kits.

摘要: A nanocapsule includes a shell including a polymer and a protein, a nucleic acid, or a combination thereof. The polymer has repeating units of Formula (I) (I) wherein X, L1, R1, and y are as described herein. The nanocapsule further includes a core comprising an oil. A composition is also disclosed including a plurality of the nanocapsules dispersed in an aqueous solution. The nanocapsules prepared according to the methods described herein are particularly useful for the delivery of proteins and nucleic acids into cells.

摘要: Apparatus and methods are described for use with a subject suffering from cancer. A nanoparticle (22) includes an inner core (30) that comprises a phase-change material that is configured to absorb latent heat of fusion by undergoing a phase change. An outer layer (32) disposed around the inner core includes a plurality of nano-spheres (34) of at least one metal, and a plurality of molecules (38) of a substance that binds preferentially with cancerous cells relative to non-cancerous cells. The nanoparticle has a volume of at least 65,000 nm3 and is elongatable into an ellipsoid, such that, when the nanoparticle is maximally elongated, each of the semi-axes defined by the ellipsoid is greater than 5 nm, and at least two of the semi axes of the ellipsoid are less than 30 nm. Other applications are also described.
