Abstract: A plug for coupling to a suture ring may include a distal portion extending from a distal end toward a proximal end of the plug, and a proximal portion coupled to the distal portion and extending from the proximal end toward the distal end of the plug. Abstract: A percutaneous circulatory support system includes an impeller and a motor operably coupled to the impeller. A controller is operably coupled to the motor, and the controller is configured to: drive the motor, the motor thereby rotating the impeller to cause blood to flow; determine that an operating parameter of the system deviates from a symmetric waveform; and in response to determining that the operating parameter deviates from the symmetric waveform, provide an alert of aortic valve insufficiency.

Abstract: A conduit forming unit includes: a cylindrical tubular body having flanges, on both end portions of the cylindrical tubular body; a first connection tubular body and a second connection tubular body respectively connected to a first end portion and a second end portion of the cylindrical tubular body; and tube joints for connecting the cylindrical tubular body and the first connection tubular body and the second connection tubular body to each other. The tube joint includes: a pawl equipped nut where a plurality of pawl portions which are engageable with the flange of the cylindrical tubular body are formed in the pawl equipped nut, the pawl portions engage with the flange so as to connect the first connection tubular body and the cylindrical tubular body to each other; and a retaining ring being annularly mountable on the pawl equipped nut and retaining engagement of the pawl portions with the flange.

Abstract: A cardiac assist system includes a pneumatic effector which is implanted beneath a pericardial sac and over a myocardial surface overlying the patient's left ventricle. A port is implanted and receives a percutaneously introduced cannula. The port is connected to supply a driving gas received from the cannula to the pneumatic effector. An external drive unit includes a pump assembly and control circuitry which operate the pump to actuate the pneumatic effector in response to the patient's sensed heart rhythm. A connecting tube has a pump end connected to the pump and a percutaneous port-connecting end attached to the implantable port.

An inner diameter of the contoured portion (135) at a first position is greater than the inner diameter at a second position. The inner surface contour has a rounded portion at the second position for reducing the inner diameter.

Abstract: A rotary pump housing having a cylindrical bore, a pumping chamber and a motor stator including an electrically conductive coil located within the housing and surrounding a portion of the cylindrical bore. A rotor has a cylindrical shaft with an impeller and one or of magnets located within the shaft that are responsive to the motor stator to drive actuation of the rotor. The housing bore is closely fitted to the outer surface of the shaft forming a hydrodynamic journal bearing with an annular clearance defining a leakage flow path. One or more of radial or axial thrust bearings may be provided to provide rotation stability to the rotor and flow within the leakage flow path. The relative orientation of positions of the inflow, outflow, and leakage flow paths may be varied within the pump, such as to accommodate different intended methods for implantation and/or use.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided, including a left-ventricular assist device that includes an impeller configured for insertion into a subject's left ventricle. A delivery tube passes through the subject's aorta, from outside the subject into the left ventricle. The delivery tube includes an outer layer that varies along a length of the delivery tube such that a flexural rigidity of the delivery tube at a first portion of the delivery tube, which is configured to traverse the aortic valve, is less than the flexural rigidity at a second portion, which is configured to traverse at least a portion of the aortic arch, and the flexural rigidity at the second portion is less than the flexural rigidity at a third portion, which is configured to traverse the descending aorta. Abstract: Disclosed are systems, devices, and methods that employ a pump to assist or support blood flow. An apparatus for pumping blood may include a pump housing having an outer wall disposed about a longitudinal pump axis, and having an upstream end and a downstream end; a blood flow straightener having a plurality of fins and positioned in the upstream end of the pump housing and secured to the pump housing by the plurality of fins; a diffuser having a plurality of diffuser fins and positioned in the downstream end of the pump housing and secured to the pump housing by the plurality of diffuser fins; and an impeller positioned between the blood flow straightener and the diffuser, and including a plurality of impeller blades. The apparatus may further include a pump drive configured to impart a rotational motion to the impeller by applying a magnetic field.
