摘要: Apparatus and methods are described including a left ventricular assist device that includes an impeller configured to be placed inside a left ventricle of a subject and to pump blood from the left ventricle to an aorta of the subject, by rotating. A frame is disposed around the impeller. A tube is configured to traverse an aortic valve of the subject, such that a proximal portion of the tube is disposed within the subject's aorta and a distal portion of the tube is disposed within the subject's left ventricle. The distal portion of the tube extends to a distal end of the frame and defines one or more lateral blood inlet openings that are configured to allow blood to flow from the subject's left ventricle into the tube. Other applications are also described.

摘要: An axial flux motor includes a housing; a drive shaft disposed within the housing; at least one rotor; and at least one stator. The at least one rotor includes a diametrically-magnetized single pole pair magnetic ring having a rotor aperture defined through the center of the magnetic ring, where the drive shaft extends through the rotor aperture and where the at least one rotor is fixed to the drive shaft. The at least one stator includes a number of conductive windings and a stator aperture, where the drive shaft extends through the stator aperture and where the drive shaft is rotatable within the aperture. The at least one stator is configured to generate an axial magnetic field that causes the at least one rotor to rotate, thereby rotating the drive shaft.

摘要: Apparatus and methods are described including a left-ventricular assist device that includes a pump-outlet tube shaped to define one or more laterally-facing blood-outlet openings and including a first section and a second section that overlap one another between the laterally-facing blood-outlet openings. The pump-outlet tube is configured for insertion, through an aorta of a subject, into a left ventricle of a heart of the subject such that the pump-outlet tube traverses an aortic valve of the subject with the lateral blood-outlet openings being disposed within the aorta. An impeller is disposed within the first section of the pump-outlet tube and is configured to pump blood of the subject, through the laterally-facing blood-outlet openings, from the left ventricle into the aorta. Other applications are also described.

摘要: The invention relates to a fluid pump device, in particular for the medical application, with a compressible pump housing and rotor, as well as with an actuation means which runs in the sleeve and on whose end the fluid pump is arranged. In order to utilize all possibilities of a space-saving arrangement of the respective pump housing of the rotor, which is compressible per se, and as the case may be, a bearing arrangement, the mentioned elements are displaceable to one another in the axial direction compared to an operation position. In particular these elements may be end-configured by way of an axial movement of the drive shaft after the assembly.

摘要: Apparatus and methods are described including a ventricular assist device that includes an impeller configured to be placed inside a left ventricle of a subject, and a frame configured to be disposed around the impeller. The frame is shaped such that, in a non-radially constrained configuration of the frame, the frame defines a cylindrical central portion, and a distal conical portion that is disposed distally with respect to the cylindrical central portion and that widens from a distal end of the frame to a distal end of the cylindrical central portion. The frame defines struts that define openings therebetween, and all openings that are defined at least partially within the distal conical portion of the frame extend into the cylindrical central portion of the frame. Other applications are also described.

摘要: A circulation assist system measures impeller displacement for use in estimating a blood flow rate related parameter. A circulation assist system includes a blood pump and a controller. The blood pump includes an impeller magnetically supported within a blood flow channel. The blood pump includes one or more sensors configured to generate output indicative of displacement of the impeller along the blood flow channel induced by a blood-flow induced thrust load applied to the impeller. The controller is configured to process the output generated by the one or more sensors to determine the displacement of the impeller along the blood flow channel. The controller is configured to process the determined displacement of the impeller to estimate at least one of the thrust load applied to the impeller, a pressure differential of the blood impelled through the blood flow channel, and a flow rate of blood pumped by the blood pump.

A securing element (117) holds the struts junctions in closed states, subsequent to the insertion of the impeller (50) into the frame (34). A pump-outlet tube (24) extends to a distal end of the frame (34) and defines one or more lateral blood inlet openings (108) that are configured to allow blood to flow from the subject's left ventricle into the pump-outlet tube (24). Other applications are also described.

A motor is configured to generate rotational motion. A rotation shaft extends from the motor to the first impeller and imparts the rotational motion from the motor to the first impeller. A gear mechanism disposed between the first and second impeller is configured to effect a change in rotational motion that is imparted from the first impeller to the second impeller, such that the second impeller rotates in a different manner from the first impeller. Other applications are also described.
