Abstract:
A liquid reclamation assembly is provided for processing a lubricant or other liquid. The assembly includes a housing interior for receiving a filter subassembly. A manifold is in fluid communication with a discharge region of the filter subassembly, the manifold comprising a primary manifold passage for passage of source fluid and a series of draw ports. The cross sectional area of the primary manifold passage is greater than the total cross sectional area of the series of draw ports to create a venturi effect to draw fluid through the assembly. The filter subassembly includes a series of target filtration segment, each segment being designed for a specific reclamation process. An entry manifold governs and distributes the fluid to each of the target filtration segments. Results of an analysis of the fluid can be used to determine which target filtration segments are desired for processing the fluid. Valves within the entry manifold can direct the flow accordingly.
Abstract:
A filter system having a filter element ejection device is provided. Filter systems according to the present invention may include a filter element that includes an ejection receiver for receiving actuation action from an ejector of a filter housing. The ejector engages the ejection receiver when a user desires to eject the filter element from the filter housing. Typically, the ejector extends through the filter housing and axially ejects the filter element from the housing.
Abstract:
A bypass filter cartridge is provided having a low efficiency filter element and a high efficiency filter element oriented in either parallel or series. The low efficiency filter element may comprise pleated filter sheet while the high efficiency filter element may include a tubular ring of depth media with considerable thickness or pleated media of varying types. The filter cartridge may be adapted and configured for use in specialized locomotive oil lubrication circuits with substantial benefit therein.
Abstract:
A debris catcher uses induced circulation from a venturi to urge debris laden flow into the lower end of a housing. An inlet tube maintains velocity so as to keep the debris moving with the fluid stream as it goes up the inlet tube. A screen fits over the open end of the inlet tube and runs down around the inlet tube toward the entrance of the debris laden fluid into the lower end of the housing. There is a clearance around the cylindrical portion of the screen so some flow can exit that way. There is also an open exit through the top of the screen that can be reached after the fluid stream makes two hairpin turns. Many modules can be stacked. Each module has a large screen area for flow to exit and progressive modules can have smaller screen openings in an uphole flow direction.
Abstract:
A filter apparatus for filtering fluid in an internal combustion engine, the filter apparatus including annular full flow filter media extending axially between a first end and a second end. The full flow filter media surrounds a reinforcing member which extends axially between the first end and the second end and includes a plurality of axially spaced apart circumferential connecting segments. The circumferential connecting segments extend between a plurality of substantially axially extending ribs which connect the reinforcing member to a radially inwardly spaced bypass tube. The reinforcing member also includes a plurality of flow apertures defined by the connecting segments and the ribs.
Abstract:
A fuel water separator system includes a fuel tank for storing fuel and a fuel water separator fluidly coupled to the fuel tank for separating water from the fuel. A fuel pump has a suction side that is fluidly coupled to the fuel water separator for pumping fuel from the fuel water separator. The fuel pump has a high pressure side where the fuel has a higher pressure than at the suction side. A water pump, such as a venturi or a jet pump, is fluidly coupled between the fuel water separator and the fuel tank for pumping the water from the fuel water separator into the fuel tank. The water pump is fluidly coupled to the high pressure side of the fuel pump to receive the fuel at the higher pressure to drive the water pump.
Abstract:
A filter assembly is provided that includes an immobilized base material in combination with a slow release mechanism for introducing an additive base material into a lubrication fluid flowing through the filter assembly. The introduced base material is a weaker base material than the base material of the immobilized base material. The combination of the immobilized base material and the additive base material provides a system that would work to neutralize acids for all lube formulations commonly used in the field. As a result, oil drain intervals can be extended.
Abstract:
A fuel filter and vapor separator arrangement having at least one layer of liquid fuel permeable material defining at least one substantially enclosed cavity. The permeable material has at least one opening to provide fluid communication of liquid fuel within the cavity with an inlet of a high pressure fuel pump outside the cavity. A jet pump and/or fuel vapor vent is arranged relative to the cavity to facilitate the elimination of fuel vapor flowing to the high pressure fuel pump.
Abstract:
An apparatus for separating liquid from a slurry comprised of a solid and a liquid is described. The apparatus comprises a container sized and configured to receive the slurry which container comprises a removable cover sized and configured to enclose an atmosphere within the container when the cover is attached to the container, a filter disposed within the container for separating the liquid from the slurry, and a vacuum pump in fluid communication with the enclosed atmosphere of the container which pump is configured to create a vacuum within the container that causes the liquid to move through the filter, which pump is configured to vacuum material comprised of solid material, liquid material, gas or a combination of two or more of the foregoing. Related methods of separating liquid from the slurry using the apparatus of the invention are also described.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a filter apparatus for use in removing impurities and acids contained in a fluid that includes a particulate filter and an acid-neutralizing filter. Preferably, the particulate filter and the acid-neutralizing filter are positioned within a housing. A conduit having a pressure reduction section is arranged to create a pressure differential across the acid-neutralizing filter such that a portion of the fluid to be filtered by the filter apparatus passes through the acid-neutralizing filter.
