摘要： Method of calendering the continuous ply of reinforcing threads, during which: said ply of reinforcing threads is positioned between a continuous upper sheet of rubber and a continuous lower sheet of rubber, said sheets of rubber having a width greater than the width of the ply of reinforcing threads, so that the two lateral parts of said sheets of rubber which are not vertically aligned with the ply of reinforcing threads form selvedges. The assembly formed in the preceding step is introduced into the nip of a calendering comprising at least two rolls, so as to cause the rubber to penetrate the spaces between the reinforcing threads. Prior to the ply of reinforcing threads and the sheets of rubber being introduced into the nip of the calender, the two selvedges of one of the sheets of rubber are turned up on themselves.

An infeed conveyor successively feeds the preparation ply sections to a butt splicing machine that joins the ends of the two preparation ply sections to form a butt joint. A gum strip applier receives the continuous preparation ply from an outfeed conveyor and applies a gum strip over the butt joint. A method is provided for forming a continuous preparation ply by first automatically forming a butt joint, and thereafter automatically placing a gum strip on the butt joint.

An operating unit moves the first holding members relative to the second holding members to butt-join the side surfaces of two successive overlapped and joins strips held respectively by the first holding members and the second holding members to generate a ply sheet.

The spring loaded roller presses down the ends of the cord strips to be joined on the stationary table and the pulleys draw together the pressed down edges of the cord strips to join them by the adhesiveness of the strip edges combined with the pressure imparted thereto by the obliquely mounted pulleys.

摘要： A device for coating wire tire cord on a spool with an agent for increasing the bond between the wire tire cord and rubber material used in the production of tires. The device is composed of at least one hollow pipe which forms a chamber in which the spools of wire are coated. The pipe is declined to help facilitate movement of the spools of wire through the pipe and allow drainage of any trapped liquid from the pipe. A hydraulic cylinder is provided adjacent the mouth of the pipe to engage and push a number of spools, in tandem, through the pipe in axially aligned, end-to-end relation. Means are supplied for circulating a liquid, containing the agent, into the chamber and for alternately creating a vacuum and pressure within the chamber to increase penetration of the liquid coating into the interstices between segments of wire cord wrapped on the spools. Other means are provided for circulating a heated fluid in the chamber to dry the liquid coating on the wire of each spool being treated.
