Abstract:
An apparatus for the cutting and creasing of plastics material sheet is disclosed which comprises a cutting and creasing tool and a corresponding plate arranged for mutual contact characterized in that the plate is free of raised surfaces and is covered with a plastic material, preferably nylon. Additionally, an apparatus for preheating corrugated plastics sheet material is described which comprises a flat bed portion adapted to receive a stack of precut corrugated sheet material blanks with their direction of corrugation aligned, heating means at at least one end of the stack, and fan means at at least one end of the stack, the heating and fan means being arranged such as to direct heated air along the corrugation of at least some of the sheets in the stack and back via the remainder of the sheets in the stack in an endless loop.
Abstract:
A kit for making boxes from paper card stock. The kit has a flat plate with a guide rail with a vertical edge projecting above the surface of the plate parallel to one edge of the plate. A scoring groove traverses the plate parallel to the vertical edge of the guide rail. One or more spacing strips, each having a vertical edge, may be placed between the vertical edge of the guide rail and the scoring groove to vary the depth of the box. The overall size or "footprint" of a box made in accordance with the invention is determined by the distance of the scoring groove from the nearest vertical edge and the size of the blank card stock employed. Two identical sized card stocks are used for each box. A slightly wider spacing strip is used to form the top than the spacing strip used to form the bottom of the box. This also makes the depth of the box bottom slightly greater than the box top. The kit includes a scoring plate, two sets of spacing strips and a scoring tool, and is used to fashion boxes in a variety of shapes and sizes. In another embodiment of the kit the scoring plate has guide rails and score lines on both sides, wherein the guide rail on one side is spaced slightly further away from the score line than on the other side to make the box bottom slightly smaller in size than the box top.
Abstract:
A scoring apparatus for use in imparting scores in paper products to reduce the occurrence of random yielding upon folding. The scoring apparatus includes a scoring member and a paper products platform member and is operably associated with a power source for forcing at least the scoring member, and the paper products into contact with one another. The scoring member includes a scoring profile having a scoring bead member for imparting scores in paper products and an integrated shoulder for partially crushing and weakening a portion of the paper products on one side of the resulting score line. The scoring apparatus creates a desired score line with a substantially weakened portion on one side of the score line, with a substantially unweakened portion on the other side of the score line--to substantially reduce the random yielding of the paper products during the folding of those paper products along the score line.
Abstract:
A cut and score die apparatus is provided for progressively converting a sheet of material into blanks. The apparatus includes a punching section for punching scrap material from the sheet of material to define an array of interconnected blanks arranged in a grid of rows and columns on the sheet of material. A scoring section is provided for simultaneously scoring a first predetermined pattern on a trailing portion of a first row of blanks and a second predetermined pattern on the leading portion of a second, succeeding row of blanks on the sheet of material. A blanking section is also provided for piercing the sheet of material in a predetermined pattern to cut blanks from the sheet of material without producing any additional scrap material.
Abstract:
To produce a container with a rounded edge, the container blank is scored with several substantially parallel, laterally spaced score lines adjacent the intended location of the rounded edge. When the blank is bent, a portion of the total deflection is absorbed by each score line so that the resulting container edge is a gradual curve rather than a single sharp crease. The ends of each scored region may be left unscored to further smooth the ends of the rounded container edge. Methods and apparatus for forming the above-described blank are disclosed.

A flat platen-type cutting and creasing press for sheet material includes a continuously moving closed loop conveyor that carries sheet gripping means in a feed direction along a generally horizontal feed path extending through a sheet loading station, a sheet unloading station, and a cutting station having die elements positioned thereat with the cutting station being positioned between the sheet loading and unloading stations. Eccentric shafts rotating at uniform speed translates platens carrying the die elements along a circular path positioned for the die elements to operatively engage and thereby fully cut a sheet moving along the feed path through said cutting station. Rotating counterbalancing weights on the eccentric shafts are disposed between points on the platens that are connected to the eccentric shafts.

Apparatus for processing a sheet of material such as cardboard intended for making a folding box or case, comprises a stamping plate for carrying the sheet and co-operable with a tool. The stamping plate lies on a table plate of a frame structure which has holders for releasably carrying a form which extends parallel to the table plate, and at least one bridge assembly which extends movably above the table plate. A carriage is carried on the bridge assembly and moves transversely with respect to the direction of travel thereof. The carriage carries at least one vertically movable pressure member directed towards the table plate.

The invention relates to a method wherein on at least one side of the cardboard in the at least one wall panel (1), a number of creases (2, 3, 4) are provided in the cardboard through a die-cutting or pressing operation, which creases (2, 3, 4) are at least locally slightly spaced apart and extend parallel to each other at that location. The invention also relates to a box manufactured by means of the method according to the invention and to a die-cutting apparatus for carrying out the method according to the invention to provide a blank for a box according to the invention.

A film blank for packages, especially for folding boxes, has impressed fold lines (BL) in the form of groove-like depressions (5), which extend from a film upper face (3) and at the base of the depressions (5) are closed off from the other film face (4). The base of the depressions (5) has zones (8) of greater depth T.sub.2 and zones (9) of lesser depth T.sub.1 alternating along its length. For ease of manufacture with close tolerances, smooth running and improved insensitivity to cracking the zones (9) of lesser depth T.sub.1, are bounded by circular arcs 10 of radius R at least 1.1 mm the center of curvature (M) of which lies on the other side a line (L) which connects the zones (8) of greater depth T.sub.2 together. Preferably, the zones (9) of lesser depth T.sub.1 merge with the zones (8) of greater depth T.sub.2 at an acute angle ".alpha." from 0.degree. to 60.degree., and the points (P') where the zones (8) of greater depth T.sub.2 and zones (9) of lesser depth T.sub.1 meet are rounded concavely.

A plastic sheet having a groove as a ruled line in at least one surface of a plastic sheet. The groove is composed of a cut portion or a deep recess portion and a shallow recess portion in the longitudinal direction of the groove, and chamfered portions having a radius of curvature of 0.05-1 mm are formed at both ends in the longitudinal direction of the bottom of the shallow recess portion.
