    摘要: Provided is a single-motor-driven gravure cylinder chuck mechanism that is enhanced in contact tightness of chuck cones with respect to an unprocessed plate-making roll in each processing unit of a fully automatic plate-making system. The gravure cylinder chuck mechanism is to be used for a processing unit of the fully automatic gravure plate-making processing system for manufacturing a plate-making roll by performing a series of processes on an unprocessed plate-making roll. The gravure cylinder chuck mechanism includes: a pair of chuck cones provided to be opposed to each other, for chucking both end surfaces of the unprocessed plate-making roll; chuck cone moving means for allowing the pair of chuck cones to be freely brought into contact with and separated away from both the end surfaces of the unprocessed plate-making roll; and a single motor for driving the chuck cone moving means. The single motor allows the pair of chuck cones to be freely brought into contact with and separated away from both the end surfaces of the unprocessed plate-making roll so that the pair of chuck cones chuck the unprocessed plate-making roll.

    摘要: A relief plate, e.g., flexographic plate for printing an image, a platemaking master for producing a relief plate, and a method for producing a platemaking master. The image includes an area to be printed solid. The plate includes in the area to be printed solid a set of line pattern perforations designed to not carry ink on the plate. The line pattern perforations include at least one of the set of patterns consisting of a line screen pattern, a jagged line pattern, a wavy line pattern, a line pattern wherein the lines are not of constant thickness, a cross-hatch pattern, and a periodic pattern of circular lines. In one version, the relief plate including at least one area intended for reproducing a minimum non-zero gray-level using a first halftone pattern of dots. The platemaking master for the relief plate provides exposure in the well-regions between the halftone, such that the wells in the plate are shallower than if no exposure is provided, thereby providing for smaller halftone dots than if no exposure is provided in the well regions of said at least one area.

    摘要: In a method for measuring cups given the engraving of printing cylinders in an electronic engraving machine, an engraver of an engraving member engraves cups into a printing cylinder. The geometric dimensions of the cups represent actual hue values. A video image of the cups is picked up. The contour of a cup is determined in the video image and the geometric dimensions of the cup are determined in that the cup contour is measured. For this purpose, the cup contour in the picked up video image is smoothed by a simulation with a spline function or a general polynomial function, and the geometric dimensions of the cup are determined on the basis of the smoothed cup contour. The determined geometric dimensions are the transverse diagonal, the longitudinal diagonal, the through-cut, the web width, the cup surface or the cup volume.

    摘要: An error detection apparatus and method for use with engravers, such as gravure engravers. An error value E corresponding to the difference between a set of predetermined setup parameters and actual measurement of a portion of an engraved area on the cylinder is determined. The error value E is then used to adjust the engraver to engrave an actual cut or etch in accordance with the set of predetermined setup parameters. The error detection and correction system is suitable for providing a closed-loop system for engraving a cylinder. The apparatus and method may be used during initial setup or during normal operation of the engraver. A method is disclosed comprising the steps of engraving ink receptive cells in the surface of a rotating gravure printing cylinder consisting of the steps of generating a cell width command signal comprising a series of cell width commands, engraving the cells by using the cell width command signal to urge an engraving stylus into periodic engraving contact with the surface, measuring actual widths of cells which have been engraved as aforesaid, and adjusting the cell width command signal in correspondence with differences between the actual widths and the cell width commands.

The geometric dimensions of the cups represent actual hue values. A video image of the cups is picked up.     摘要: This invention relates to an engraving method and apparatus for engraving a cylinder for printing an intaglio pattern on a web of material. The engraver comprises a driver for rotatably driving the cylinder and a controller for controlling the operation of the engraver and for generating an intaglio engraving signal corresponding to the predetermined intaglio pattern. The engraver also comprises an engraving head comprising a stylus having a generally flat cutting edge or surface. The engraving head also is capable of engraving at response times of less than 200-300 microseconds, thereby enabling the engraving head to engrave the intaglio pattern on the cylinder during the rotation of the cylinder in response to the intaglio engraving signal. The apparatus and method also comprise a fine line boost routine for facilitating engraving fine areas or lines of the intaglio pattern. There is also provided apparatus and method for controlling ink flow in large engraved areas or intaglio trenches. The apparatus and method facilitate engraving intaglio grooves or trenches which may be generally rectangular in cross section, and which were engraved in response to a pulse-width modulated intaglio engraving signal generated by the controller. In another embodiment of the invention, a system and method or process for engraving a mixed pattern of non-intaglio and intaglio engraved areas is shown. The invention also includes a system and method for engraving mixed patterns of intaglio and non-intaglio areas. In this regard, a controller associated with the engraver analyzes the image data and differentiates the non-intaglio data from intaglio data so that it can be signed an appropriate feed rate for the intaglio and non-intaglio patterns. Using the feed rates, the mixed patterns are engraved.
