摘要： This invention relates to a device for printing on printed products (20) which are transported past an ink jet writer (34') in an imbricated stream by means of a conveying device. A sensor (34, 35) triggers a writing operation of the ink jet writer when a printed product (20) has reached the writing area of the latter. Therefore, the printed products (20) can also be inscribed in an imbricated stream conveyed in a freely supported manner. The conveying device, in the area of the ink jet writer (34') is provided with means (12) which laterally displace the printed products individually during transportation of the printed products (20) in the imbricated stream.

摘要： A conveyor system conveys a plurality of printed products along a path of travel in an imbricated stream and such that a border region of each printed product is exposed by the imbricated overlap. A contrast panel (14), which forms a text panel (12), is applied to the exposed border region of each printed product (10). The contrast panel is provided with the text (18) and the contrast panel forms a contrast with respect to the text (18), with the result that the latter can be immediately seen and read easily. In one embodiment, the contrast panel is applied by printing, and in another embodiment, the contrast panel comprises a separate label which is adhesively applied.

摘要： A credit card imprinter is disclosed herein in which printing of the sheet is inhibited or prevented if the credit card is inadvertently incorrectly positioned on its support. The imprinter has a manually-operated printing carriage movable along a support member on which a sheet can be arranged to overlie an embossed credit card. In one embodiment a combined detent and trip mechanism is provided to prevent movement of the printing carriage over the support member and to raise a printing roller in the carriage away from the support member. The mechanism is disabled by the correct insertion of the credit card. In another embodiment, a resilient means is provided for preventing the sheet from being positioned on the support unless the credit card has been properly positioned thereon.

摘要： A printing machine is provided for imprinting forms with fixed data from embossed printing plates and variable data from manually settable print wheels by moving a roller platen from a start position across the printing elements and the form to an actuated position to perform a printing operation and back to the start position to complete a printing cycle. The print wheels are selectively positionable by keyset levers movable from a zero position to a selected printing position for rotating each of the print wheels to a desired peripheral setting. Reset means is provided for restoring each of the keyset levers from the selected printing position to the zero position in response to movement of the roller platen through a printing operation, and lock-out means is provided to inhibit movement of the roller platen through a printing operation following a printing cycle. The roller platen is unlocked for movement in response to movement of at least one of the keyset levers from the zero position to a new setting.

摘要： An improved printing apparatus control system regulates the operation of a sheet feed assembly which sequentially moves sheets of material to and from a printing station and a plate feed assembly which sequentially moves printing plates to and from the printing station. A photocell detects initial movement of a leading end portion of the printed sheet of material away from the printing station under the influence of the sheet feed assembly. This photocell is also utilized to detect when the printed sheet of material has completely exited from the printing station. A second photocell detects the presence of the succeeding sheet of material at the printing station. The control system also includes a sensor which detects the removal of one printing plate from the printing station, the absence of a printing plate at the printing station, and the subsequent arrival of the next succeeding printing plate at the printing station. Part way through each operating cycle of the printing apparatus, the control system performs a checking operation to make sure that the sheets of material and printing plates have been properly fed to and from the printing station. In the event of a misfeed of either a sheet of material or printing plate, operation of the printing apparatus is stopped.

摘要： A conveying device directs printed products past a stationarily arranged ink jet printer. A control system initiates a printing operation by the printer each time a printed product passes through the effective printing zone or region of the printer. The conveying device comprises an individual conveyor equipped with gripper units arranged in spaced relationship from each other, each of which is structured to take-up or engage one printed product. The control system includes a pulse generator driven by the individual conveyor and transmits a control pulse for each one of the gripper units. The control pulse is suppressed by a monitor responsive to empty gripper units. Since the printed products are conveyed by the gripper units, their reference position relative to the conveying device is defined over the entire product conveying path. The control signal initiating the printing operation thus can be utilized for initiating other operations after passing through a delay element.

摘要： A credit card verification system is provided whereby credit cards may be quickly checked at their point of use to determine whether a particular card is valid, or whether it has been invalidated because of loss, for example, or because of nonpayment; and also which may be checked to determine whether or not the term for which a card was issued has expired. The verification apparatus and system to be described is one in which the expiration date of the card is checked by pneumatic means, in a simple adjustable unit which may, for example, be attached directly to the card imprinter at the point of use; and in which a serial number coded on the card by means, for example, of embossments, is read, likewise by pneumatic means, and the resulting signals are compared in an electronic system with signals stored in the system and which are indicative of the invalid cards. The electronic system may be located at the point of use of the cards, or at a central station.
