摘要: A device for determining moisture has an LC-oscillating circuit (1) as a transducer and an oscillator (2) for exciting the oscillating circuit (1). Further, the device for determining moisture has a tuning device (3) for frequency-wise tuning the oscillator (2) and a measuring and evaluation circuit (4) to determine an attenuation condition of the oscillator (2) and to provide a signal that is proportional to a degree of moisture at the transducer (1). The transducer (1) and the oscillator (2) are coupled in a contact-free manner.

摘要: A differential capacitive moisture sensor, relying for its operation on the time-varying couplings in two moisture-sensing regions to provide indication of presence of moisture, with selectivity of sensing surface provided by a shielding electrode, and with temperature information provided by a simultaneously-fabricated resistive temperature sensor. Various electrode connections and sensor electronics may be used. An improved differential capacitive moisture sensor has equal dry capacitances, with unequal moisture sensitivities, for providing a single-polarity output signal. An ice detection method and apparatus is also provided.

摘要: A pair of outer conducting members on the outside of a windshield are separated by a long common insulating border defining a border resistance in parallel with a first capacitance. Each of the outer conducting members is capacitively coupled through a layer of the windshield to an inner conducting member to form coupling capacitances in series with the combination of the border resistance and first capacitance. The preceding elements form a timing circuit for an oscillator, the timing circuit having an equivalent capacitance varying with the border resistance. When water droplets bridge the border of the outer conducting members, the border resistance decreases from infinity to change the equivalent capacitance of the timing circuit and thus the frequency of the oscillator circuit; and this change is detected to modify wiper operation.

摘要: The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for controlling a wiper which detects the amount of rain positioned on a rain sensor regardless of the wiping speed of wipers and which smoothly moves the wipers at different wiping speeds in accordance with the detected amount of rain. The apparatus for controlling the wiper includes the rain sensor, a first comparator, an actuator, a second comparator, a timer, a memory and a changing device. The rain sensor is located on an exterior surface of a front windshield of a vehicle and detects the amount of rain which is positioned on the rain sensor. The wiper wipes off an exterior surface of the front windshield and moves from and returns to an initial position.

摘要: An apparatus for automatic activation and control of windshield wipers in response to moisture accumulation at the exterior surface of the windshield, including a pair of thin wires sandwiched within the windshield and positioned below the surface of the windshield to be cleared by the windshield wipers. The wires provide variable capacitance to a detection circuit, based on the amount of water occurring at the windshield surface. Activating circuitry is coupled to the detecting circuitry and wiper motor for initiating wiper action when capacitance measurement exceeds a predetermined reference standard.

摘要: A system, controller, and method for detecting moisture on a windshield that uses an isolated electrode coupled to a windshield. The isolated electrode is configured to exhibit an electrical impedance indicative of moisture present on a surface the windshield. The controller is configured to determine an electrode impedance value corresponding to the electrical impedance exhibited by the isolated electrode for detecting moisture on the windshield. By using an isolated electrode, the system is simpler and less expensive than other systems that have at least one electrode providing a return path for another electrode. Also, a way to use the isolated electrode for both detecting moisture on the windshield, and heating the windshield is described.

摘要: A moisture detector can include a first elongated conductor disposed on a substrate. The first conductor can define a zigzag path between the opposite ends thereof. A second conductor can also be disposed on the substrate at least partially surrounding the first conductor. The second conductor can define between opposite ends thereof a zigzag path having a portion thereof that is positioned in substantially spaced parallel relation with the zigzag path of the first conductor along the sides thereof. A power conductor disposed on the substrate can be electrically connected to the first conductor intermediate the ends thereof via a gap defined between the ends of the second conductor. Ground conductors disposed on the substrate can be electrically connected to the ends of the second conductor. A temperature sensor can be utilized to correct the response of the moisture detector for temperature.

摘要: A moisture detection system includes an electrical conductor disposed on a surface of a substrate. The electrical conductor has a resonant frequency that varies as a function of an amount of moisture present adjacent the electrical conductor. An oscillator outputs an oscillator signal at a predetermined amplitude and a predetermined frequency. A resonator circuit is coupled to the electrical conductor and is responsive to the oscillator signal and the resonant frequency of the electrical conductor for outputting a resonator signal having an amplitude related to the resonant frequency of the electrical conductor. A filter circuit rectifies and filters the resonator signal and provides it to an analog-to-digital converter which outputs a digital signal related to the rectified and filtered resonator signal. A controller is responsive to the digital signal for causing a system associated with the substrate to operate in accordance with the digital signal.
