    Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method including the steps of: acquiring a time sequence of sets of vehicle parameter values; determining, for each set of acquired vehicle parameter values, based the set of acquired vehicle parameter values, a measure indicative of an observed strain in a steering rod, between a steering actuator and a wheel; determining, for each set of acquired vehicle parameter values, a measure indicative of a predicted strain in the rod, between the steering actuator and the wheel; and determining the functional status of the steering system based on a relation between the measures indicative of the observed strain in the rod and the measures indicative of the predicted strain in the rod.

    Abstract: A positive stop clamp for clamping a cross tube of a tie rod to a tie rod end includes a one-pieced clamp body having a U-shape cross section and a locking fastener. The clamp body includes two flat ends, each end having a pair of inwardly bent ears whereby a substantially circular interior is defined. The body further includes a cantilevered locator tab having a flange at its end. The flange abuts the end of the cross tube to locate the clamp at the desired point on the tube.

    Abstract: A guide control rod for a wheel suspension arrangement of motor vehicles. The guide control rod includes spaced side walls extending in a longitudinal direction with guide sockets being positioned in an area of the respective ends of the guide control rods. Each side wall is formed by a single stamped or pressed plate element. The guide sockets are formed by collar portions which define mounting openings extending through the respective side walls. The collar portions have different diameters so as to enable the collar portions of the respective plate members to be pressed onto one another, thereby connecting the two plate members to each other.

    Abstract: An articulated ladder-like type traction device for selectively stabilizing the load and torque characteristics for use in the rear suspension system of a vehicle. The traction device includes a lower frame member adapted to be pivotally connected at one end to a vehicle chassis and pivotally connected at the other end to the rear axle of the vehicle. A second frame member is fixedly attached to the first member adjacent the first pivotal connection and extends at an angle in a generally vertical plane to the first mentioned frame member, and terminates in a pivotal connection to one end of a turn buckle type link arrangement. The turn buckle type link is pivotally connected at its other end to the rear wheel axle. An upstanding member fixedly connects the frame members adjacent the second pivotal connection. Adjustment of the turn buckle type link raises and lowers the first mentioned pivot, and thus raises and lowers the vehicle chassis for controlling the load over said rear axle while simultaneously controlling the torque imparted to said chassis from the vehicle engine for maximizing drive traction to said vehicle.
