摘要: A tail sitter aircraft includes a fuselage having a forward portion and an aft portion. The forward portion of the fuselage includes first and second rotor stations. A first rotor assembly is positioned proximate the first rotor station. A second rotor assembly is positioned proximate the second rotor station. A tailboom assembly extends from the aft portion of the fuselage. The tailboom assembly includes a plurality of landing members. In a vertical takeoff and landing mode of the aircraft, the first and second rotor assemblies rotate about the fuselage to provide vertical thrust. In a forward flight mode of the aircraft, the first rotor assembly rotates about the fuselage to provide forward thrust and the second rotor assembly is non-rotatable about the fuselage forming wings to provide lift.

The proprotor blade assemblies each including a spar and a sheath extending spanwise along a leading edge of the spar. The spar has a root section, a main section and a tip section. The spar has a generally oval cross section at radial stations along the main section of the spar with the root section of the spar forming an integral tang assembly operable for coupling the spar to the rotor hub assembly.

摘要: A technique is directed to operating an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) having a fuselage defining a flight direction of the UAV and wing-plate assemblies that propel the UAV in the flight direction defined by the fuselage. The technique involves providing, while the flight direction defined by fuselage of the UAV points vertically from a takeoff location on the ground, thrust from propulsion units of the wing-plate assemblies to fly the UAV along a vertical takeoff path. The technique further involves maneuvering, after the UAV flies along the vertical takeoff path, the UAV to align the flight direction along a horizontal flight path that is perpendicular to the vertical takeoff path. The technique further involves providing, after the UAV flies along the horizontal flight path, thrust from the propulsion units of the wing-plate assemblies to land the UAV along a vertical landing path that is perpendicular to the horizontal flight path.

摘要: The present invention relates to a blade folding apparatus that may incorporate an overhead blade lifting system that reduces binding loads on blade pins induced by blade weight and pitch, and a folding mechanism that removes the necessity of personnel with external guide-poles to rotate main rotor blades. The apparatus may include flap locks, an overhead lifting system support structure attached to the flap locks, and two blade support beams to create and support a lifting point near each blade's longitudinal and lateral center of gravity. The blade support beams may be fitted with an articulation mechanism that lifts and/or lowers the overhead lifting structure. The apparatus facilitates rapid folding of the main rotor blades, and, when used with blade clamping mechanisms, is capable of aiding in the removal and/or the re-installation of the main rotor blades without external lifting mechanisms.

摘要: A dual-mode vehicle, wheels for the vehicle, and a method of transitioning the vehicle from a land mode to a flight mode. In the land mode, the method includes rotating a pair of spaced wheel arms about a central pivot to lower a body of the dual-mode vehicle to a ground surface. Each wheel arm extends from the central pivot to a wheel. The method also includes rotating the central pivot about a longitudinal vehicle axis to raise the wheel arms and the wheels above the ground surface. After raising the wheel arms and wheels above the ground surface, the method includes rotating the wheel arms about the central pivot to position the wheels for use as rotors in the flight mode. In the flight mode, the method includes rotating the wheels in order to extract rotor blades positioned within the wheels to extend beyond the wheels.

摘要: An apparatus comprises frame plates, lever arms, a linkage assembly, bridge arms, upper pad assemblies, and lower pad assemblies. The lever arms are operative to pivot relative to the frame plates. The linkage assembly is pivotally coupled to the frame plates and to the lever arms. The bridge arms are pivotally coupled to the lever arms. The upper pad assemblies are pivotally coupled to the bridge arms. Lastly, the lower pad assemblies are pivotally coupled to the frame plates. Pivoting the lever arms in a first direction translates the upper pad assemblies towards the lower pad assemblies, and pivoting the lever arms in a second direction translates the upper pad assemblies away from the lower pad assemblies. Actuation of the linkage assembly is operative to cause the lever arms to pivot.

摘要: A pin configured for use in a rotor blade movable between an aligned position and a folded position and having a rotor blade airfoil contour is provided including a cylindrical body configured to couple a first section and a second section of the rotor blade when the rotor blade is in the aligned position. A handle is mounted to an end of the cylindrical body and has an airfoil contour complementary to the rotor blade airfoil contour. The handle is movable between an open position and a closed position. When the handle is in the closed position, the handle is flush with an adjacent portion of the rotor blade. When the handle is in the open position, the handle is accessible to pull the cylindrical body from the first and second section s of the rotor blade.
