The binders are internally plasticized to provide increased flexibility of coatings prepared from the binders which are essentially chip resistant.

摘要: Process for coating a conductive substrate used as the anode in an electrochemical cell, in which a direct electric current is passed from a cathode to the said anode through an electrolytic liquid containing a phenolic monomer in order to form a polymeric film of phenolic resin on the substrate. The electrolyte includes from 10 to 200 g/l of allylphenol or a mixture of such with other phenols, and from 5 to 200 g/l of an aliphatic amine, in solution in a mixture of water and alcohol. The polymeric film is deposited by using an electric current of a density not greater than 50 mA/cm.sup.2 of substrate, and the polymeric film so deposited is heated to a temperature of from 100.degree. to 200.degree. C. in order to induce the hardening of the said resin.

摘要: Adherent insoluble coating film of a phenolic resin is obtained by electrolysis of an alkaline-reacting aqueous electrolyte comprising phenol, a mono- or di-substituted phenol with substituent(s) in o- or m-position, and an alkylene diamine, in specific proportions. The current density shall never exceed 10 mA/sq.cm. The voltage is from 2.5 V to 10 V and is preferably kept constant. Coating thickness values exceeding 1 micron and up to about 25-30 microns are obtainable within a short time at the expense of 2-2.5 Faradays per mole deposited phenol. The substituted phenol is preferably o-chloro-phenol, and the diamine is preferably ethylenediamine.

摘要: A water-based polymeric coating comprising a novolak resin is deposited electrolytically from a solution of a novolak resin upon a conductive substrate at an initial current density ranging from 10-30 milliamperes per square centimeter. The resultant coating, after cross linking by subsequent chemical treatment, is flexible, firmly adherent and evidences good thermal stability and insulation characteristics, so suggesting its use as a cover coat for printed circuits.
