Abstract:
A marine diesel cylinder lubricating oil composition includes a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity. The lubricating oil composition further includes a non-sulfur containing aromatic amine. The marine diesel cylinder lubricating oil composition has a total base number (TBN) of about 5 to about 100 mg KOH/g. Furthermore, the contribution of the non-sulfur containing aromatic amine to the TBN of the marine diesel cylinder lubricant oil composition is greater than about 30%.
Abstract:
Electrosurgical lubricants, sterilized kits including the lubricants, methods for using the lubricants, and methods for preparing sterilized kits having the lubricants therein. Electrosurgical devices utilize a high frequency electrical current to cut and to coagulate tissue during surgery. A problem of the electrosurgical devices is that the heat thereof causes tissue, such as that of a human being, to remain on the device and is generally difficult to remove, even with repeated washings. The electrosurgical lubricants have been found to considerably reduce the amount of eschar that builds up on electrosurgical devices, decrease the tendency of electrodes to stick to tissues at the surgical site, and prevent damage to the surface of the electrosurgical device.
Abstract:
A lubricating oil composition is provided which comprises (a) greater than 50 wt. % of a base oil of lubricating viscosity; and (b) 0.1 to 40 wt. % of an overbased alkaline earth metal alkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic carboxylate, wherein the alkyl substituent is a residue derived from an isomerized alpha-olefin having from 12 to 40 carbon atoms, and having a TBN, on an actives basis, of less than 600 mg KOH/g, as determined by ASTM D 2896; wherein the lubricating oil composition is a monograde lubricating oil composition meeting specifications for SAE J300 revised January 2015 requirements for a SAE 20, 30, 40, 50, or 60 monograde engine oil, and has a TBN of 5 to 200 mg KOH/g, as determined by ASTM D2896.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition including an epoxide compound is disclosed. An additive package including the epoxide compound is also disclosed. The epoxide compound of the lubricant composition acts to improve compatibility of the lubricant composition with a fluoropolymer seal and improve the total base number of the lubricant composition.
Abstract:
Functional fluids employing organic phosphate ester basestocks and mono-epoxide acid scavengers have improved EPR seal compatibility by using as the acid scavengers a mono-epoxide having the formula 1 where R1 is H or a C1 to C4 alkyl; x is an integer of 1 to 2; y is an integer of 1 to 4; and R2 is a C1 to C4 alkyl group or a phenyl group.

563,632. Lubricating oil compositions. SHELL DEVELOPMENT CO. Nov. 11, 1942, No. 15931. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1941. [Class 91] A steam cylinder lubricating oil composition comprises a mixture of a mineral lubricating oil free from asphaltenes, a minor proportion of a dispersing or emulsifying agent, and 1 to 15 per cent by weight of added petroleum resins. The proportion of dispersing agent ranges from 05-1 per cent and preferably 0.1-0.5 per cent. The petroleum resins are high boiling organic compounds normally contained in unextracted bright stocks and have molecular weights above 500; they may be produced by the methods described in U.S.A. Specifications 2,081,496 and 2,201,466. The base stocks are mineral oils of viscosity 100-300 s.s.u at 210‹ F. and preferably 150-250 s.s.u at 210‹ F. Oils refined by the usual processes are preferred. The emulsifying agents specified comprise alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, or amino base salts with an organic detergent-forming acid exemplified as acids of the type R-COOH, acids of the sulphonic acid type R-SO3H and " acids " of the sulphuric acid ester type ROSO3H, numerous examples of such acids of these three types being given. Particular compounds given comprise sodium oleate, sodium sulphonate of petroleum, and an alkali metal salt of a rosin oil acid.
Abstract:
Compositions comprising a) a metal detergent and b) an acid comprising at least one hydrocarbyl-substituted carboxylic acid. The metal detergent comprises at least one alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, or combinations thereof. The weight ratio of the metal detergent a) to the acid b) ranges from 50:1 to 1:10, or 25:1 to 1:10, or 10:1 to 1:10, or 5:1 to 1:7, or 2:1 to 1:3. The compositions may be added to industrial coating or lubricant compositions to reduce corrosion of metal components.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.01 to 5 percent by weight of a substantially sulfur-free alkyl phosphate amine salt, where at least 30 mole percent of the phosphorus atoms are in an alkyl pyrophosphate salt structure, exhibits good antiwear performance, even in the presence of corrosion inhibitor additives. In the phosphate amine salt, at least 80 mole percent of the alkyl groups are typically secondary alkyl groups of 3 to 12 carbon atoms.

The epoxide compound of the lubricant composition acts to improve compatibility of the lubricant composition with a fluoropolymer seal and improve the total base number of the lubricant composition.
