    摘要: A process for the production of a purified PGM selected from the group consisting of platinum and rhodium from an impure PGM source, the process comprising (a) obtaining an anhydrous PGM halide from the impure PGM source; (b) treating the PGM halide with carbon monoxide at an effective temperature; pressure and time to form the PGM carbonyl halide; and (c) (i) wherein the PGM is platinum, heating the platinum carbonyl halide at an effective platinum decomposition temperature to produce the purified platinum; (ii) wherein the PGM is rhodium, heating the rhodium halide at an effective rhodium decomposition temperature to produce the purified rhodium; and (iii) wherein the platinum carbonyl carbonyl halide and the rhodium carbonyl halide are in a gaseous mixture, effecting step (i) at a temperature lower than the rhodium effective decomposition temperature prior to effecting step (ii). The process is of particular value in the recovery and recycle of PGM materials from vehicle exhaust catalytic converters.

    摘要: In a process for producing an ultrafine powder of a metal by subjecting a transition metal carbonyl compound to gas phase pyrolysis reaction, the improvement which comprises diluting said carbonyl compound with an inert gas or hydrogen to a concentration of 3 vol. % or less with optional addition of an oxygen-containing organic compound and/or a sulfur-containing organic compound in an amount of 0.0001 to 0.1 mol per mol of said carbonyl compound to prepare a gas mixture, and then carrying out gas phase pyrolysis reaction at 300.degree. C. or higher by allowing said gas mixture to reside for 5 seconds or less in a reaction system to which a magnetic field of 100 gauss or higher is being applied, thereby obtaining the ultrafine powder of said metal having a length of 1 micron or less, a coercive force of 800 oersted or higher and a saturation magnetization of 120 emu/g or higher.

    摘要: Fluid bed reactors for decomposing metal carbonyls and comprising a vertically disposed, elongated vessel for confining a bed of fluidized particulate material are provided with heating coils, that can be heat exchange coils through which heating fluid is passed or electrical resistance heating coils, in the lower part of the reactor and fluidized bed so that the lower portion of the fluidized bed functions as a heating region while the upper portion functions as a decomposing zone. The lower and upper portions of the fluidized bed are volumetrically proportioned to provide substantially equal gas velocities to promote conveyance of heated particulate material from the heating region to the decomposing region. A process for decomposing metal carbonyls is also disclosed in which separate heating and decomposing regions in a fluidized bed are established and a metal carbonyl is introduced into the decomposing region via a water-cooled lance to be decomposed on heated particulate material.
