摘要:
A method for manufacturing an integral rotationally symmetrical part, which includes producing a blank of the part around a cylindrical mandrel, the blank including at least one fibrous structure made of composite ceramic fibers coated with metal, followed by a diffusion-welding treatment of the blank by hot isostatic pressing, and optionally machining the thus-treated blank to obtain the part. The blank includes at least a first metal-wire layer between the mandrel and the composite fibrous structure, and at least a second metal-wire layer arranged around the composite fibrous structure to cover the composite fibrous structure.

A method of manufacturing a fibre reinforced metal matrix composite article, the method comprises forming a first metal component, forming a second metal component and forming at least one fibre preform comprising at least one metal coated fibre. The metal at least one first portion of the at least one metal coated fibre of the at least one fibre preform is bonded to the metal at least one second portion of the at least one metal coated fibre of the at least one fibre preform to hold the at least one fibre in position. The at least one fibre preform is placed between the first metal component and the second metal component. The second metal component is sealed to the first metal component, and heat and pressure is applied such as to consolidate the at least one fibre preform and to diffusion bond the metal on the fibre of the at least one fibre preform, the first metal component and the second metal component to form a unitary composite article. The bonding comprises ultrasonic welding.

A wire/fiber ring having two layers applied in four clock positions. Each layer includes a first material strand having a first diameter and a second material strand having a second diameter different from the first diameter. A second or any subsequent layer is disposed such that there is unambiguous nesting between strands in adjacent layers. After the array is built-up, wire is over-wrapped around the array to hold it in place during subsequent consolidation steps, which take place after the built-up array is sealed in an air-tight container and evacuated. After heating and application of pressure a wire/fiber array having a void content of about 12% and a fiber content of between about 0% to 70% and preferably between about 30% and 45% can be achieved.

A wet filament winding method and apparatus for producing a consolidated metal matrix composite is described. The methods are directed to winding a softened metal infiltrated fiber bundle and layering the resulting softened metal infiltrated fiber bundle onto a rotating mandrel in a prescribed pattern on the surface of the mandrel to form a consolidated metal matrix composite. Upon cooling, the matrix metal solidifies and the resulting consolidated metal matrix composite may be removed from the mandrel. The consolidated metal matrix composites may be produced in a variety of shapes, such as cylinder, a tapered cylinder, a sphere, an ovoid, a cube, a rectangular solid, a polygonal solid, and panels.

Process for manufacturing a component with an insert made of a composite comprising a metal matrix, within which ceramic fibers extend, the insert made of a composite being obtained from a plurality of coated filaments, each comprising a ceramic fiber coated with a metal sheath, characterized in that it comprises the manufacture of an insert with a step of winding a bundle or bonded sheet of coated filaments around a body of revolution perpendicular to the axis of rotation of said body. The insert is then subjected to a hot isostatic pressing step in a container. The process is applied to the manufacture of aeronautical turbomachine components.

A process for is producing a fiber-reinforced semifinished product in the form of metal strips, metal sheets etc., from at least one layer of fibers which includes a number of long to endless reinforcing fibers spaced apart from one another and arranged in parallel and a metal. A metal jacket applied to the reinforcing fiber by a PVD process (physical vapor deposition) may act for example as the metal. At least certain regions of the metal and the reinforcing fibers run through a welding process in which a bonding takes place by planar melting of the metal to form a matrix surrounding the reinforcing fibers.

A manufacturing method of combining wires and fibers to fabricate fiber reinforced composites is disclosed. The fibers are drum wound on an adhesive-coated substrate followed by coating with a barrier layer to preserve the fiber spacing. A layer of the adhesive material is then applied to the fiber wrap and wire is wound therearound. A series of increasingly viscous tacky materials can then be applied to the wire wraps so that all gaps between the wires are filled. The inventive method can be used to form standard wire/fiber preforms, variable spacing wire/fiber preforms, ring preforms and wire only preforms which can be processed into fiber reinforced composite materials.
