Systems, devices, media, and methods are presented for controlling remote equipment in a network. A switch heater control system includes a weather modeling function. The system periodically obtains weather data according to a predetermined time interval. Based on the closest weather data set, the weather modeling function generates a hyperlocal forecast associated with each switch heater location. The system includes an active snowfall mode and a maintenance mode that controls heating based on an estimate of local snow depth, adjusted for wind conditions and passing trains. When the hyperlocal forecast indicates heating is required, the system calculates a melt duration, starts a timer, and transmits a start signal to the switch heater.

A heating system for a train track rail, coal car, and other comparable units contains a main power supply, a system control unit, a plurality of environmental sensors, and a plurality of induction heating units. The plurality of environmental sensors is used to maintain a constant feedback of the environment the heating system is used in. Each of the plurality of induction heating units includes a heating head which is used to generate heat. In particular, the heating head generates heat through a pancake induction coil. The generated heat is used to melt snow or ice which accumulates on the train track rail. Since each of the plurality of induction heating units can be controlled individually, energy usage is minimized.

A track rail heating assembly that is adapted to position a heater element in spaced relation proximate to a surface of a track rail of a railroad. The assembly includes at least one heating element, and a housing that is operable to at least partially surround the heating element while positioning the heating element near to track rail. The hood positions the heating element relative to the rail section such that a gap exists between the heating element and the rail section. As the heating element does not contact the rail, the heating element cannot form an electrical by-pass for signals passing through the rail section. The assembly further incorporates a flexible barrier that at least partially isolates a side surface of the track rail from ambient conditions to reduce heat loss.

At least one gas-tight heat exchanger (11) is designed in module form having a plurality of directly adjoining modular mini-channels (111), depending on the power requirements, in a planar arrangement for transferring the latent heat arising from the heat source (2) from the heated gaseous portion of the working fluid to the component (3) to be heated, said mini-channels (111) being connected to at least one supply channel (114, 115) and having a diameter of 0.3 to 6 mm. The heat transfer unit (1) can be integrated into the region of a switch blade (32) as a railway point heater.
