摘要: A magnetic tool may be provided with a ditch magnet that may include end plates (or handles) having a mostly open architecture, and these end plates may be permanently affixed to the ends of the magnetic bar. Ferrous metal may pass through by urging captured ferrous metal from one end of the ditch magnet to the opposite end. The captured ferrous metal may be urged from one end of the ditch magnet bar to an opposite end using a composite, multi-component wiper. The wiper may remove captured ferrous metal safely and effectively from the ditch magnet bar.

摘要: A magnet assembly having selectively removable magnet members can be attached to, or placed in the vicinity of, a conventional bell nipple or riser on a drilling rig to generate a magnetic field within a wellbore. The magnetic field catches falling metal objects and prevents such objects from passing beyond the magnet assembly and entering subterranean portions of a wellbore. Hatch doors are provided for easy access to inner portions of the magnet assembly.

摘要: A magnetic cleaning tool for collecting ferrous debris in a wellbore and a method of cleaning a wellbore. The magnetic cleaning tool has a tool body for attachment in a work string, one or more magnets supported on the tool body, and a sleeve located around the tool body which is arranged to be moveable along the body to provide selective coverage of the magnets. Embodiments are described providing shear pins and spring loaded balls to hold the sleeve either over the magnets or free of the magnets. An expandable piston, moveable by action of a drop ball, is described to release the sleeve. The sleeve is arranged so that the magnets can be covered and therefore effectively inactive on run-in and during downhole operations, and uncovered to be active when pulled out of the wellbore.

摘要: A tool for suspending in a well retrieves various metal debris from the well, and includes an elongated tool body with a plurality of magnets included in a plurality longitudinal ridges which are circumferentially spaced. In the method a plurality of magnets can be positioned within openings, recesses, or pockets in each ridge, and held in place by one or more retaining plates, the tool being connected to a drill string and lowered into a well.

摘要: A downhole debris recovery tool including a ported sub coupled to a debris sub, a suction tube disposed in the debris sub, at least one magnet disposed in the debris removal tool, and an annular jet pump sub disposed in the ported sub and fluidly connected to the suction tube. A method of removing debris from a wellbore including the steps of lowering a downhole debris removal tool into the wellbore, flowing a fluid through a bore of an annular jet pump sub, jetting the fluid from the annular jet pump sub into a mixing tube, displacing an initially static fluid in the mixing tube through a diffuser, thereby creating a vacuum effect in a suction tube to draw a debris-laden fluid into the tool, flowing the debris-laden fluid past at least one magnet disposed in a debris housing, and removing the tool from the wellbore is also disclosed.

摘要: A cleanout system and method for removal of metal debris from a fluid flow, such a flow of re-circulated drilling mud employs one or more magnetic unit positioned in the path of the fluid for collecting metal particles from the flow. The magnetic unit has a removable magnet core positioned in a non-magnetic sleeve. When the core is removed from the sleeve the attracted metal particles are allowed to drop from the sleeve under gravity to facilitate their collection and disposal. A fluid deflector is positioned upstream from each magnetic unit, protecting the magnetic unit from direct impact by the strong flow. The magnetic units are allowed to pivot from side-to-side and adjust their position in the flow.
