    摘要: An acoustic silencer for dampening unwanted resonant and pressure pulses in a pipe or duct work and includes an expansion chamber having an enclosed volume through which a pipe or duct work extends, thereby defining an annular volume within the enclosed volume between the process pipe and the expansion chamber. An insert disposed within the annular volume extends along the length of the process pipe and forms an acoustic volume within the annular volume and defines a resonant passage length that is of a length so as to dampen one or more frequencies of the process pipe. An opening is formed through the process pipe along the length of the process pipe that extends through the expansion chamber and is in fluidic communication with the acoustic volume.

    摘要: The phenomenon of resonance in a catalyst converter due to a flow of an exhaust gas is reduced without causing problems with vehicle layout, problems with manufacturing (higher manufacturing cost), or adverse influences on other facets of performance. An internal combustion engine includes an internal combustion engine main body having a fuel chamber formed in an interior, and a catalyst converter arranged in an exhaust flow channel of the internal combustion engine main body and provided with a catalyst for purifying the exhaust gas. The exhaust flow channel, which is upstream of the catalyst of the catalyst converter, is provided with a protuberance for disturbing the flow of the exhaust gas in the exhaust flow channel to reduce pressure pulsations of the exhaust gas.

    摘要: The exhaust sound and emission control systems comprise a series of embodiments of devices for reducing sound and noxious emissions from an automotive exhaust. The system may have an exhaust resonator having one or more catalytic converter elements in combination therewith in a single device. Alternatively, the system may have multiple angularly disposed chambers therein, with a series of swept baffles or guides in one of the chambers, thereby combining resonator and muffler functions in a single device. In another alternative, the system has a series of longitudinal tubes therein in combination with a series of V-shaped guides or vanes, combining catalytic converter, muffler, and resonator functions in a single device. The various elements of the different embodiments, e.g. catalytic converter element(s), double wall shell, perforated tubes and multiple flow paths, interconnecting crossover tubes, etc., may be combined with one another as practicable.

    摘要: An exhaust muffler system for use on a motorcycle or four-wheeled vehicle provides for operation in either of two modes, a regular configuration that provides a high degree of noise reduction, or a racing specification that provides for a freer-flowing exhaust. Without changing the main body of the muffler, an operator can choose between a quieter, public road setting or a louder, high performance setting. The muffler is provided with two interchangeable spark arresters, and a main body having multiple expansion chambers therein, defined by bulkheads. When a regular spark arrester is installed, exhaust gas passes through one bulkhead three times, greatly reducing the noise produced. With the spark arrester removed, the exhaust gas passes straight through to the open air, enhancing performance. A seal is provided between the bulkheads and the spark arrester, which provides for extension or retraction in the lengthwise direction of the tail pipe.

    摘要: An expansion chamber, and first and second volume chambers on either side of said expansion chamber, are formed inside a muffler housing. Engine exhaust is led by an inlet tube to the first volume chamber, and an opening facing the expansion chamber is formed in an intermediate part of the inlet tube. Exhaust in the second volume chamber is discharged outside by a tail tube, and an opening is formed facing the expansion chamber in an intermediate part of the tail tube. A valve is provided for leading exhaust from the first volume chamber to the second volume chamber according to a pressure difference between the chambers. This forms two exhaust flowpaths. A resonance system with two degrees of freedom is thereby formed with respect to exhaust discharged via the two openings and the expansion chamber, and a high noise silencing efficiency is obtained.

    摘要: An exhaust system of an internal combustion engine has an exhaust gas inlet tube extending from the engine. A muffler is connected at its inlet side to the exhaust gas inlet tube. The muffler includes first and second exhaust gas flowing passages. First and second exhaust gas outlet tubes are respectively connected to the first and second exhaust gas flowing passages and extend from the muffler independently. A flow controller steplessly varies the flow passage area of the second exhaust gas outlet tube in accordance with the pressure of the exhaust gas discharged from the engine. The flow controller continuously increases the flow passage area with increase of the magnitude of the exhaust gas pressure.
