Abstract: In a cylinder deactivation control method of an engine, a cylinder deactivation trigger moment of a to-be-controlled engine is determined; a second cycle and a cylinder deactivation mode corresponding to the next first cycle are determined according to the crankshaft rotation speed at the cylinder deactivation trigger moment, the target torque at the cylinder deactivation trigger moment, and a second cycle and a cylinder deactivation mode corresponding to the previous first cycle at the cylinder deactivation trigger moment; the fuel injection quantity of the ignition cylinder in the next first cycle is determined.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine system is described herein. The internal combustion engine system uses one or more fuels that may be hydrophilic. The system uses a water measuring sensor to determine the concentration of water in the hydrophilic fuel. To meet power demands, the system uses the measured water concentration to modify data stored in a fuel map. The fuel map provides a controller the pump speeds and mixing ratio of the fuels for a given power level. The system receives that data and modifies it based on the measured concentration of water.

Abstract: A port and direct fuel injection (PDI) fuel delivery system for a vehicle having an engine configured to selectively operate between a port fuel injection (PFI) mode, a gasoline direct injection (GDI) mode, and a PDI mode includes a PFI system including plurality of PFI injectors, and a GDI system including a plurality of GDI injectors. The PFI and GDI systems are configured to provide various split-ratios of fuel mass injection to the engine based on a particular engine operating condition. A controller is programmed to identify a known first long term fuel trim (LTFT) for a first split-ratio, identify a known second LTFT for a second split-ratio, generate a linear equation based on the known first and second LTFTs, and determine an unknown third LTFT for a third split-ratio by utilizing the linear equation to facilitate reducing fueling errors and emissions.

Abstract: A system that controls a combustion engine stores network vectors in a memory that represent diverse and distinct spiking neural networks. The system decodes the network vectors and trains and evaluates the spiking neural networks. The system duplicates selected network vectors and crosses-over the duplicated network vectors that represent modified spiking neural networks. The system mutates the crossed-over duplicated network vectors by randomly modifying one or more portions of the crossing-over duplicated network vectors. The system meter exhaust gas into an intake manifold when an engine temperature exceeds a threshold, an engine load exceeds a threshold, an engine's rotation-per-minute rate exceeds a threshold, and a fuel flow exceeds a threshold. The system modifies fuel flow into an engine's combustion chamber on a cycle-to-cycle basis by the trained spiking neural network.

Abstract: A method is provided for controlling an engine. In one example, the method may include injecting fuel to the engine; and during an operating condition, limiting injected fuel based on engine airflow to a smoke-fuel limit, the smoke-fuel limit transiently adjusted from a first smoke-fuel limit to a second smoke-fuel limit based on a duration operating at the smoke-fuel limit. In one example, the method may include during another operating condition, fuel injection not limited by the smoke-fuel limit. In some examples, the duration may be a time duration. In some examples, the duration may be a crank angle duration. In some examples, limiting the injected fuel is based on an estimated engine airflow and estimated fuel injection amount to the engine.

Abstract: An air flowmeter is arranged in an intake passage. An air-fuel ratio sensor is arranged downstream of an addition valve in an exhaust passage. An exhaust temperature sensor is arranged downstream of a catalyst. An air amount estimating process calculates an estimated air amount based on the air-fuel ratio detected by the air-fuel ratio sensor and the fuel amount injected by a fuel injection valve. An upward displacement anomaly determining process determines that there is an anomaly in which a detected value of the air flowmeter is greater than an actual value if a logical conjunction is true of the condition that the detected value of the air flowmeter is greater than the estimated air amount by a margin greater than or equal to a specified amount and the condition that an amount by which a detected value of the exhaust temperature sensor exceeds a reference value is smaller than or equal to a predetermined amount.

Abstract: A first limit requesting process limits a dither control process of fuel injection valves in such a manner that the absolute value of the difference between the air-fuel ratios of the cylinders becomes smaller when the degree of variation of the injection amounts of the fuel injection valves provided for respective cylinders is great than when the degree of variation is small. A second limit requesting process limits the dither control process in such a manner that the absolute value is smaller when the torque fluctuation amount of the internal combustion engine is great than when the torque fluctuation amount is small. The limiting process limits the dither control process in accordance with one of requests generated by the first limit requesting process and the second limit requesting process that causes the absolute value to be smaller than the other.

Abstract: A method is described for diagnosing errors in an internal combustion engine in which fuel is injected from a high-pressure accumulator into associated combustion chambers with the aid of multiple fuel injectors, a first value (Rstat,2) which is representative of a static flow rate of fuel through one of the fuel injectors being ascertained, a second value (Δn) which is representative of a running smoothness of the internal combustion engine being ascertained, if at least one of the two values (Rstat,2, Δn) deviates from the particular associated reference value (R′stat, Δn0), an error (F) being deduced, and the error (F) being assigned to the fuel injector and/or at least one further component and/or at least one operating phase of the internal combustion engine on the basis of deviations of the two representative values (Rstat,2, Δn) from the particular associated reference value (R′stat, Δn0).
