摘要: Three variable gear assemblies called Transgears, an electro-mechanical rotary frequency converter, and a variable torque and power generator (VT&PG) referred to herein as a variable overlap generator (VOG), may be used independently and together to provide constant frequency and voltage output power and to increase the amount of output power generated with the same input water flow, wind speed, or solar energy. Two sets of three variable spur/helical gear assemblies of sun and planetary gear sets are combined in a mechanical three variable control to form an assembly called a Hummingbird. A Hummingbird control may comprise a constant speed control motor and a constant speed generator to produce required constant frequency and voltage and be reduced in part count and complexity. In order to provide a constant control input, a constant DC voltage can be produced and a DC motor and, for example, a brush-less and commutator-less direct current generator can be used. Once a constant speed is produced, a constant frequency can be produced by a rotary frequency converter. A VOG may be used as a low torque generator and a high power-rated generator in these applications and may generate more electric power than a conventional fixed power generator (the rotor axially aligned to overlap the stator in a conventional manner) over a wider input range of renewable energy.

摘要: A vertical-axis wind turbine apparatus is disclosed. In at least one embodiment, the apparatus provides a substantially vertically-oriented main shaft. A blade assembly is coaxially aligned with and rotatably engaged about the main shaft. The blade assembly provides an at least one blade radially projecting therefrom. A housing is rotatably engaged with the main shaft and configured for selectively encompassing the blade assembly. A first screen is integral with the housing and configured for shielding a return portion of the blade assembly. A second screen is rotatably engaged with the housing and configured for selectively moving between a retracted position, wherein the second screen is positioned substantially adjacent to the first screen such that a catch portion of the blade assembly is exposed, and a deployed position, wherein the second screen is rotated away from the first screen for at least partially shielding the catch portion from the wind.

摘要: Various fluid turbine systems and methods are described. The turbine can be a vertical axis wind turbine configured to generate power from wind energy. The turbine system can have a blade assembly. The blade assembly can have a plurality of blades rotatable about an axis. The turbine system can have a concentrator positionable upwind and in front of a return side of the blade assembly. The concentrator can define a convex surface facing the wind. The turbine system can also have a variable concentrator positionable upwind of a push side of the blade assembly. The variable concentrator can be adjustable between a first position and a second position, the variable concentrator being capable of deflecting more wind toward the turbine in the first position than in the second position.

摘要: A vertical axis wind turbine apparatus can be implemented as a support structure, atop which is located a rotatable domed housing for a blade assembly. The blade assembly includes curved blades vertically attached to a drive shaft which can either turn a magnetic rotor or be attached directly to a generator in order to produce electricity. The blade assembly receives wind through both a main inlet and a secondary inlet and expels wind through an exhaust duct. The device can be constructed from carbon fiber to prevent damage from lightning. The device is also constructed with the appearance of a tree where the support structure resembles a tree trunk and panels resembling palm fronds or branches can be attached to the domed housing. The design creates an efficient and aesthetically pleasing wind turbine that can be utilized in both residential and commercial applications.

摘要: The bicycle has a frame on which a front wheel and a rear wheel are rotatably mounted. At least one of these two wheels is connected to at least one device using wind-generated Bernouilli force to assist forward motion of the bicycle. Such device has a wind-driven turbine with a plurality of horizontal air foils attached to a shaft rotatably mounted about a horizontal axis. It also has a shield positioned adjacent to part of the turbine to deflect wind and prevent it from impacting the air foils when they rotate forwardly. A clutch is operatively connected to the shaft of the turbine to the wheel for transferring the force generated by the wind within the turbine to this wheel.
