Abstract: In some examples, a brake disc includes a lining carrier and a friction pad covering a carrier surface of the lining carrier. The lining carrier defines a recess configured to receive a protrusion extending from the carrier surface when the friction pad covers the carrier surface. The friction pad is configured to transfer a torque to the lining carrier via the protrusion when a friction surface of brake disc engages an adjacent brake disc during a braking operation of a brake assembly. In examples, the brake disc includes a fastener configured to couple the lining carrier and the friction pad.

Abstract: A vehicle braking system reduces particulate emissions resulting from wear of the brake pad and rotor during stopping or slowing of a vehicle. The rotor includes at least one friction surface, that has an outer coating of a corrosion and wear-resistant material. This outer coating can optionally include a first layer comprising a crystalline material and a second layer overlaying and contacting the first layer and comprising an amorphous material. The first layer and the second layer can optionally have an inter-layer period of less than 10 nm such that the structure of the outer coating is that of a superlattice. A brake member that includes a friction material is mounted to a caliper on the vehicle with the friction material disposed opposite the at least one friction surface so that the friction material reversibly engages with the outer coating of the corrosion and wear-resistant material when the braking system is operated to stop or slow the vehicle. Contact between the friction material and the outer coating results in substantially reduced conversion of the friction material to dust while producing an improved coefficient of friction relative to standard braking systems. Related systems, apparatus, methods, and/or articles are also described.

Abstract: A method for making a brake disc may include providing a disc brake with a braking band and depositing on the disc a layer of chromium carbide and nickel-chromium in particle form to form a base protective coating. The method may also include depositing on the base protective coating a material in particle form consisting of tungsten carbide, iron, chromium and aluminium to form a surface protective coating made of tungsten carbide, iron, chromium and aluminium. Both protective coatings may be made by High Velocity Oxygen Fuel or High Velocity Air Fuel or Kinetic Metallization techniques.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a lug drive system for a wheel such as that found on a motorcycle. The lug drive system includes a 2-piece lug drive hub assembly mounted on one side of the wheel to apply a driving force thereto. The lug drive hub assembly includes a lug drive sprocket and a hub that are detachably connected together by an inner retaining ring. The lug drive sprocket includes an outer drive ring and an inner carrier disk that are detachably connected together by an outer retaining ring. The lug drive system also includes a 2-piece lug drive rotor assembly mounted on the opposite side of the wheel to apply a braking force thereto. The lug drive rotor assembly includes a lug brake rotor and a hub that are detachably connected together by an inner retaining ring. The lug brake rotor includes an outer friction ring and an inner carrier disk that are detachably connected together by an outer retaining ring.

Abstract: A friction plate is provided. The friction plate includes a core plate including a plurality of cutouts extending axially therethrough; a plurality of friction material segments, each of the segments being received in one of the cutouts; and at least one connector affixing the frictional material segments in place in the cutouts to form a mechanical connection between the friction material segments and the core plate. A method of forming a friction plate for a clutch is also provided. The method includes attaching a plurality of friction material segments to a core plate including a plurality of cutouts extending axially therethrough by inserting each of the friction material segments into one of the cutouts and affixing the friction material segments in place with at least one connector to form a mechanical connection between the friction material segments and the core plate.

Abstract: In some implementations of the current subject matter, a braking system can include a first combination of braking components operable to slow or stop rotational motion of a first wheel of the multi-wheeled vehicle and a second combination of braking components operable to slow or stop rotational motion of a second wheel of the multi-wheeled vehicle. The first combination can include a first brake rotor and a first brake pad, and the first brake rotor can include a coating that imparts wear and corrosion resistant properties to the first brake rotor. The second combination can include a second brake rotor and a second brake pad, and the second brake rotor can lack the coating. Related systems, methods, articles of manufacture, and the like are disclosed.
