    摘要: In negative pressure ventilating system wherein atmospheric air is introduced along the walls of a building adjacent the roof, insulated, hinged valves provided within the associated airways rise automatically from their lower, fully closed position by the pressure of the incoming air as the inside pressure is reduced to below atmospheric. The bottoms of the valves and the surfaces upon which they rest, when closed by gravity, are contoured to reduce resistance to free air flow in the airways. A smooth, uninterrupted change of directional flow is effected by streamlining both the valves and the opposed surfaces, virtually eliminating air turbulence from the inlets to the discharge ends of the air ducts. By elimination of abrupt changes in the direction of flow the incoming air is properly controlled. The air is gradually directed along the airways downwardly and inwardly away from the ceiling and the adjacent wall such as to provide proper air distribution within the building regardless of variances in the rate of air flow. The surfaces are formed on baffling which controls air circulation within the building.

    摘要: The present invention relates to an arrangement for controlling fluid flow through an aperture.In one embodiment, the flow control arrangement, which may be used in association with a window to control the flow of ventilating air, comprises a strip brush composed of an array of resilient filaments firmly mounted at their root region. The free end region of the filaments define, with a fixed flange, the effective area or width of an aperture for the passage of ventilating air. Variations in the strength of the air flow incident to the array of filaments causes changes in the degree of deflection of the filaments, thus altering the effective width of the aperture and controlling the air flow through the aperture.

The closure is maintained in a closed position by a simple latching means, and may be maintained in an open condition by means of fluid flow through the conduit.     摘要: A system for optimizing the flow of air through a fume hood by dynamically controlling the air flow to provide a stable vortex in the vortex chamber of the hood, the optimum condition for minimizing backflow of fume-laden air through the hood doorway. A highly-sensitive pressure sensor disposed at a critical location in the vortex chamber sidewall senses minute variations in vortex pressure indicative of turbulence and sends signals via a transducer to an analog controller which uses proportional integral and adaptive gain algorithms to formulate output signals to an actuator which adjusts dampers in the hood to change the airflow into the vortex. The system operates in feedback mode and seeks a minimum in the amplitude of the sidewall pressure variations, indicating that turbulence has been eliminated and that a stable vortex exists. The pressure sensor signals can also be directed to an alarm to signal an off-standard and potentially dangerous condition.

    摘要: A constant air pressure unit for an air handling system. The unit comprises a housing having an air inlet opening for admitting pressurized air into the housing. The housing has a top wall with a by-pass opening therein and a door is displaceably retained over the by-pass opening. The door has a predetermined load whereby the door is caused to lift away from the by-pass opening when the pressure of the air in the housing is equal to the pressure required to lift the load. The door load defines a maximum housing pressure. In the case where the pressure at the inlet opening starts to increase above the predetermined maximum housing pressure, the door lifts and by-passes the excess pressurized air and thus limits the inlet and housing pressures. In a corollary unit, an air outlet opening for releasing air is included. A pressurized airflow path is defined between the inlet opening and the outlet opening. The outlet airflow is restricted by the use of an adjustable restrictor blade which will start to increase the pressure in the housing. With the door load selected for a desired inlet pressure, the excess pressurized air is then evacuated through the by-pass opening so as to maintain a substantially constant air pressure at the inlet and thus a substantially constant inlet airflow volume rate with a variable outlet airflow volume rate.

    摘要: An automatic temperature and pressure responsive damper assembly for use within the conduit of a ventilating system designed to exhaust the air from a confined space to the atmosphere when the confined space reaches a preselected temperature or when the pressure in the confined space is greater than that in the conduit adjacent to the atmosphere. The damper assembly includes at least one vane pivotally mounted within the conduit, preferably two, the vane or vanes being mounted so that they are movable between a generally opened position, wherein air can pass freely through the conduit, and a generally closed position, wherein air passage through the conduit is blocked. A temperature responsive drive assembly that detects the temperature within the conduit is mounted therein and acts upon the vane or vanes is provided such that a change in temperature and expansion of the temperature responsive drive assembly causes the vanes to move to their opened position. Biasing means are provided for urging the vane or vanes when subjected to the aforementioned differential in pressure to their normally closed position.

    摘要: An air conditioning unit mounting curb adapted for flat roof-top mounting with provisions for ducts for passage of air to and from an air conditioning unit from and to a plurality of rooms immediately subadjacent and spaced below the roof top. The mounting curb is comprised of a rectangular outer perimeter, a closed bottom, a wall dividing the curb into two plenums, and at least one opening in one of the plenums for supply of air to the rooms and at least one opening in the second plenum for return air from said rooms. The improvement in the mounting curb comprises a bypass means between the plenums, which is responsive to pressure differential acting thereon, providing a variable air volume system. The bypass means consists of an opening in the dividing wall, a damper blade covering the opening and hingeably connected to the return air side of the dividing wall, a lever attached at one end to the damper blade and at the opposite end thereof to an axle rod, which extends through the curb. An adjustable counterweight is provided on the end of the rod to yieldably maintain the damper blade in the closed position.
