Abstract: A fluid flow sensing device having at least a stem and a paddle portion which is pivotally disposed with the stem, and a magnetic opener which biases the paddle away from the stem to into an “off” position. Upon sufficient pressure impending on the paddle by flowing fluid to overcome the force of the magnetic opener, the paddle pivots towards the stem to an “on” position, which is sensed by a device such as a Hall effect sensor, reed switch, or optical sensor.

Abstract: A system may include a flow sensor and a base. The flow sensor may include a flow tube, a sensor configured to characterize at least one attribute of a fluid in the flow tube, and an electrical contact in electrical communication with the sensor. The flow tube may include a fluid inlet at a first end of the flow tube, a fluid outlet at a second end of the flow tube, a fluid injection port between the first and second ends of the flow tube, and a valve configured to control a flow of a fluid in the flow tube. The base may include a processor, an electrical contact in electrical communication with the processor, a short range wireless communication device, and a display. The flow sensor electrical contact may be in electrical communication with the base electrical contact when the flow sensor is connected to the base.

Abstract: A water consumption meter for animals allowing a precise measurement of fluids entering an attached water vessel. The materials and design of the meter allow the meter to endure freezing events and function properly after such freezing events. The meter has internal vanes set at a particular angle that contribute to a more accurate measurement of the liquid being consumed by the animal. The water consumption meter can include a rotational member with angled vanes that assist in a more accurate measurement of the water entering and exiting the meter.

Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring consumption of flowing substance is provided. The apparatus, connectable to the end of a pipe where fluid is flowing, includes a generator (106) configured to generate electric power from the fluid passing through the generator, sensors (112, 114) to measure the temperature of the fluid and the amount of fluid flowing in the pipe and a processing unit (116). The apparatus detects that fluid starts flowing in the pipe at a first time instant and detects that fluid stops flowing in the pipe at a second time instant and determines the temperature of the fluid and the amount of fluid that flowed through the pipe between the first and the second time instant, stores the determined values and the time elapsed between the first and the second time instants as an entry in a memory (120); and transmits the entry.

Abstract: A shunt including an implantable housing having a proximal end and a distal end. A pressure sensitive valve is contained within the housing at a position between the proximal end and the distal end, and the pressure sensitive valve is capable of controlling a flow of fluid between the fluid inlet port and the fluid outlet port. The shunt further including a sensor assembly fluidly coupled to the pressure sensitive valve, wherein the sensor assembly is mechanically actuated and capable of detecting the flow of fluid through the pressure sensitive valve. A condition of the shunt can be detected by detecting a flow of fluid through the shunt and generating a signal indicative of a period of fluid flow through the implantable shunt based on the detecting. The signal can be output to an external device capable of determining, from the signal, whether the shunt is malfunctioning.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a sensor circuit to receive a varying signal at an input of the apparatus. The sensor circuit provides a sensor signal corresponding to a measurement of the varying signal. The apparatus further includes a timer circuit to generate a signal at various intervals of a plurality of intervals and a controller coupled to the sensor circuit. The controller has a first power mode and a second power mode, where the first power mode has a lower power consumption than the second power mode. The controller enters the second power mode in response to the signal from the timer circuit. The controller enables the sensor circuit, captures a plurality of measurements of the varying signal, and returns to the first power mode.

Abstract: A flowmeter for liquids has a measuring housing, which encloses and rotatably mounts an impeller, said measuring housing comprising a one-piece supply pipe and discharge pipe, wherein the impeller is eccentrically arranged in the discharge pipe after a nozzle-forming constriction. A sensor encoder is associated with the impeller and a sensor which responds to the sensor encoder is provided on the measuring housing for determining the amount of liquid flowing through the measuring housing on the basis of the revolutions of the impeller. The outer diameter corresponding to the impeller is smaller than the nominal inner diameter of the discharge pipe, enabling it to be pushed into the one-piece pipe.
