Abstract: A system for checking metering accuracy of an EVSE unit includes an EVSE unit including a cable and a charge handle. The system includes an electric vehicle including a charging port configured to be coupled to the charge handle. The electric vehicle is configured to be charged by the EVSE unit using the cable and the charge handle. In place of the electric vehicle, an electric vehicle-emulating electric load can be used. The system includes an inline electric meter device having a terminal end and a distal end. The charging port of the electric vehicle is configured to be coupled to the terminal end of the inline electric meter device. The charge handle is configured to be coupled to the distal end of the inline electric meter device. The inline electric meter device may be connected in various configurations. The inline electric meter device includes a display, a microprocessor, test and diagnostic logic, a report generator, a camera, and/or a GPS receiver.

Abstract: Techniques for generating simulated waveforms for an electric meter include operating a meter in simulation mode without an external load device connected to the meter. Simulated waveforms are generated for a number of channels based on waveform component values. The waveforms are generated at a rate that corresponds to a sample rate of an analog to digital converter (ADC) of the meter. In simulation mode, the waveforms are provided to a meter firmware interface, instead of the waveform data obtained from the ADC.

Abstract: A utility meter includes a meter housing in which are supported at least one current coil, a temperature sensor, and a processing circuit. The current coil can be coupled to receive heat energy from within or on the meter socket. The temperature sensor generates a sensor signal based on a temperature within the meter housing. The processing circuit is operably coupled to the temperature sensor and the at least one current coil. The processing circuit obtains the sensor signal and generates temperature information therefrom, and also generates measurements of current through the current coil. The processing circuit generates an adjustment based at least on the square of the measured current, and determines whether an abnormal condition exists based on the temperature information, the adjustment, and a threshold. The processing circuit can generate an output signal to a display or communication circuit responsive to determining that the abnormal condition exists.

Abstract: The present invention relates to current measurement apparatus 100. The current measurement apparatus 100 comprises a measurement arrangement 110, 114 which is configured to be disposed in relation to a load 108 which draws a current signal, the measurement arrangement being operative when so disposed to measure the load drawn current signal. The current measurement apparatus 100 also comprises a signal source 112 which is operative to apply a reference input signal to the measurement arrangement 110, 114 whereby an output signal from the measurement arrangement comprises a load output signal corresponding to the load drawn current signal and a reference output signal corresponding to the reference input signal. The current measurement apparatus 100 further comprises processing apparatus 116 which is operative to receive the output signal and to make a determination in dependence on the reference output signal and the load output signal, the determination being in respect of at least one of the load drawn current signal and electrical power consumed by the load.

Abstract: An energy metering system includes a plurality of sensors arranged in proximity to circuit breakers of a distribution panel for sensing a magnetic field in the area of the circuit breakers and providing corresponding sensor data. The system further includes a data processing system for converting the sensor data of the plurality of sensors into electrical load information for a plurality of electrical circuits protected by corresponding circuit breakers. The system further includes a calibration unit configured to determine at least a reference voltage and a reference current of at least one circuit. The data processing system is configured to calibrate a relationship between the sensor data and the load information based on the reference voltage and reference current determined by the calibration device in a calibration mode of the energy metering system.

Abstract: Described herein are methods and systems for identifying individual branch circuits coupled to a power distribution point. A sensor module positioned in proximity to the power distribution point and having a plurality of magnetic field sensors senses a magnetic field emitted by each of a plurality of branch circuits coupled to the power distribution point. A processor coupled to the sensor module determines a response of each magnetic field sensor to each of a plurality of changes in power associated with at least one of the plurality of branch circuits. The processor positions the responses of the magnetic field sensors to each change in power on a point in a multidimensional space, where each dimension of the multidimensional space corresponds to a magnetic field sensor. The processor identifies clusters of the points in the multidimensional space, each cluster representing a different branch circuit and having a different vector direction.
