Abstract: A system includes a hardware accelerator configured to perform a two-dimensional (2D) fast Fourier transform (FFT) on an M×N element array. The hardware accelerator has log2 M×N pipeline stages including an initial group of log2 M stages and a final group of log2 N stages. Each stage includes a butterfly unit, a FIFO buffer coupled to the butterfly unit, and a multiplier coupled to the butterfly unit and to an associated twiddle factor table. The hardware accelerator also includes butterfly control logic to provide elements of the M×N element array to the initial group of stages in an N direction of the array, and twiddle factor addressing logic to, for the twiddle factor tables of the initial group of stages, apply an indexed entry of the twiddle factor table to the associated multiplier. The indexed entry begins as a first entry and advances by N entries after every N cycles.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to radar and radar processing. As may be implemented in accordance with one or more embodiments involving multi-input multi-output (MIMO) co-prime radar signals transmitted by a plurality of transmitters and reflected from at least one target, the reflected radar signals are processed by resolving ambiguities associated with a range-Doppler detection based on unique pulse repetition frequencies (PRF)s associated with respective chirp groups of the reflected radar signals. Abstract: A radar system for vital signs monitoring such as at least heart rate or breathing and a method for mitigating random body movement and external interference effects in vital signs monitoring such as at least heart rate or breathing by employing a radar system that is configured for providing in-phase and quadrature signals from reflected and received radar waves are provided. The problem of random body movement effects and external interference affecting vital signs monitoring is at least mitigated by decomposing and filtering a reconstructed displacement signal using a time and frequency analysis technique such as Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT), followed by a Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) operation. This decomposition allows the identification of time and frequency basis components containing the random body movement interference. Hence, the filtered signal can be reconstructed after removing the random body movement components, thus enabling reliable and robust vital-signs parameter estimation.

Abstract: A method for calibrating a transmitter of a plurality of transmitters of a radar system is provided. The method includes setting the radar transmitter to be calibrated to a first Doppler Division Multiplexing (DDM) pattern and associating each of the other transmitters in the plurality with a respective second DDM pattern. A target is detected by performing radar detection with the plurality of transmitters, wherein the transmitter is operated with the first DDM pattern and each of the other transmitters is operated with its associated second DDM pattern, extracting Doppler Fourier transform coefficients for a Doppler spectrum peak corresponding to the target and for spurs associated with the peak, applying an inverse discrete Fourier transform to the extracted Doppler Fourier transform coefficients, detecting a phase error of the transmitter using a result of the inverse discrete Fourier transform and calibrating the transmitter according to the detected phase error.
