Abstract: Curable compositions comprise at least one (meth)acrylate monomer; silver; and a photoinitiator system. The photoinitiator system comprises at least one cyclic β-diketone represented by the formula (I) or a tautomer thereof, wherein: R1 represents H or an organic moiety having from 1 to 32 carbon atoms and optionally 1 to 12 heteroatoms selected from O, N, and combinations thereof; each R2 independently represents H or an aliphatic group having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, and up to two of oxygen and sulfur atoms; and n represents 1, 2, or 3; and at least one Type II photoinitiator. Methods of making and using the compositions are also disclosed.

Abstract: Polymerizable compositions are provided, including a polymerizable component and a redox initiation system. The redox initiation system includes a transition metal complex that participates in a redox cycle; an oxidizing agent; and a photolabile reducing agent containing a benzophenone moiety. On exposure to actinic radiation, such as UV, the photolabile reducing agent photolyzes, releasing the reducing agent and initiating the redox-initiated polymerization of the polymerizable component. Also provided is a photolabile reducing agent.

Abstract: An optical ferrule assembly includes an optical ferrule including an attachment area, a light input surface and a light output surface; an optical fiber having a fiber end where the light input surface and the fiber end defines a gap therebetween substantially filled with an adhesive, such that light propagating along the optical fiber and having a peak intensity I1≥3 GW/m2, exits the fiber end and enters the optical ferrule through the light input surface after traversing the gap through the adhesive, and exits the optical ferrule through the light output surface. The exiting light has a first beam size, such that after at least 100 hours of aging of the optical ferrule assembly, any change in the first beam size due to a photodegradation of the adhesive is no more than about 10%. The adhesive can be prepared by photocuring an optical adhesive formulation.

Abstract: A method of disposing an adhesive composition onto a first surface of a first substrate comprises: a) disposing a photoactivatable adhesive precursor composition onto at least a portion of the first surface of the first substrate according to a predetermined pattern, and b) exposing the photoactivatable adhesive precursor composition to actinic electromagnetic radiation, thereby providing an adhesive precursor composition that spontaneously cures to provide the adhesive composition. The photoactivatable adhesive precursor composition comprises: at least one free-radically polymerizable compound and a photoactivatable redox initiation system comprising: (i) at least one photoactivatable reducing agent precursor; (ii) at least one transition metal compound comprising at least one metal selected from groups 5 to 11 in the Periodic Table of the Elements; (iii) optional organic peroxide; and (iv) optional quaternary ammonium halide. An article preparable according to the method is also disclosed.
