Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for operating an artificial reality device using gestures. In various exemplary embodiments, an artificial reality device may receive information initiating a gesture recognition mode via the artificial reality device, and cause a camera associated with the artificial reality device to operate in the gesture recognition mode. The artificial reality device may further receive at least one image of a gesture captured by the camera and identify and evaluate the gesture. The gesture may be indicative of a user command. The artificial reality device may also execute the user command, and may generate feedback confirming execution of the user command.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of orienting a vision impaired user with a musical instrument and systems and methods of directing the vision impaired user to tune the musical instrument are disclosed. A method of orienting includes directing the user to play a note on the musical instrument, determining the note and a corresponding location on the musical instrument, the corresponding location being a portion of the musical instrument that generates the note, determining a difference between the corresponding location and a target location, the target location representing at least a portion of a positioning necessary for the user to play the musical instrument, generating one or more non-visual directions based on the difference, and providing the one or more non-visual directions to the user. The one or more non-visual directions direct the user to the target location.
Abstract:
A method for handling an interaction between an individual having a physical impairment and a customer contact center includes: detecting, by a processor, an interaction directed to a route point; determining, by the processor, whether the interaction is associated with an individual having a physical impairment; identifying, by the processor, a first resource of the contact center for handling the interaction, wherein the first resource is assigned an attribute indicative of being suitable for handling interactions with individuals having the physical impairment; ascertaining, by the processor, a presence of the first resource at a place enabled for handling interactions with individuals having the physical impairment; and transmitting, by the processor, a signal for routing the interaction to the first resource for servicing via the place, wherein in response to the signal, a communication session is established with a user device of the individual having the physical impairment.
Abstract:
A touch panel includes a tactile overlay made of glass material, the tactile overlay having a tactile element configured a ridge or a convex shaped hot-embossed by a TaC-coated tungsten carbide mold. The tactile elements are grinded permanent and scratch resistant by the TaC-coated tungsten carbide mold that allows a user to identify the individual tactile elements sensitively blindly.
Abstract:
Disclosed are methods and apparatus for generating accessible documents. In one embodiment, an initial document in a print format is obtained. The print format of the initial document is identified as one of a plurality of print formats. A parser corresponding to the one of the plurality of print formats is applied such that the initial document is parsed according to the print format of the initial document. An intermediate document that conforms to an intermediate format is generated based upon results obtained from applying the parser. A template for converting the intermediate document into an accessible document is obtained. The template is then such that an accessible document corresponding to the initial document is generated, wherein the accessible document includes a plurality of tags that designate an order of a plurality of regions of the accessible document.
Abstract:
A device and method are provided for recognizing text on a curved surface. In one implementation, the device comprises an image sensor configured to capture from an environment of a user multiple images of text on a curved surface. The device also comprises at least one processor device. The at least one processor device is configured to receive a first image of a first perspective of text on the curved surface, receive a second image of a second perspective of the text on the curved surface, perform optical character recognition on at least parts of each of the first image and the second image, combine results of the optical character recognition on the first image and on the second image, and provide the user with a recognized representation of the text, including a recognized representation of the first portion of text.
Abstract:
A system and computer implemented method for detecting a change in a home environment for a visually impaired user is disclosed. The method may include monitoring the home environment using a set of sensors configured to collect environment data for a set of areas of the home environment. The method may also include detecting an environmental change in an area of the home environment. The method may also include providing, in response to a triggering event, a notification of the environmental change.
Abstract:
A process is directed to the generation, maintenance, and provision of narrations for requested network content. A client computing device transmits a narration of a network resource, such as a web page, to a network computing provider. The narration can be separated into portions, each portion corresponding to a portion of the network resource. A second client computing device can request the network resource and the narration. The network computing provider can determine whether there has been any change in the requested network resource since the narration was received, and can modify the narration provided to the second client computing device accordingly. The second client computing device can playback appropriate portions of the narration while still being capable of regular interaction with the requested network resource.
Abstract:
Apparatuses may be configured to provide feedback to a user, who may be visually-impaired. In one implementation, a method for using the apparatuses provides this feedback to a visually impaired user. The method comprises receiving from a mobile image sensor real time image data that includes a representation of an object in an environment of the visually impaired user. The mobile image sensor is configured to be connected to glasses worn by the visually impaired user. Further, the method comprises receiving a signal indicating a desire of the visually impaired user to obtain information about the object. The method also includes accessing a database holding information about a plurality of objects, and comparing information derived from the received real time image data with information in the database. The method comprises providing the visually impaired user with nonvisual feedback that the object is not locatable in the database.
