Abstract:
A magnetic tape cartridge includes a magnetic tape wound around a reel, in which the magnetic tape has a first region, which is a predetermined region influenced by a width change of the magnetic tape accompanied by deformation of the reel due to winding of the magnetic tape, and a second region, which is a region on an outer peripheral side of the reel with respect to the first region, and regarding a degree of elongation in a longitudinal direction of the magnetic tape, the degree of the first region is equal to or larger than the degree of the second region.
Abstract:
A magnetic tape cartridge includes a case in which a magnetic tape is housed, and an NVM of a cartridge memory provided in the case. The NVM stores cartridge information including an identification ID regarding an allowable range of temperature/humidity in using the magnetic tape, an upper limit of a preservation period of the magnetic tape, and an upper limit of a use frequency of the magnetic tape.
Abstract:
A magnetic tape cartridge includes a substantially rectangular box shaped case that houses, inside a housing area, a single reel wound with a magnetic tape and equipped with a reel plate that is attracted and held by magnetic force when loaded into a drive device, and a metal-containing block that is disposed inside the case and outside the housing area of the reel, and has a proportion of metal by mass to a total mass of metal provided inside the case including the reel equipped with the magnetic tape and the reel plate of 18% or greater.

Abstract:
A television system has a television viewing mode and a guide mode. The guide mode includes an electronic program guide (EPG), which provides the viewer program information for tuned programs, and a tape index guide (TIG), which provides information for programs recorded on a video cassette. In both guides, real time images of a program are displayed in a PIP window on the television screen and guide information is displayed in the background. In both guides, the viewer may switch between a currently telecast program or a recorded program. The viewer may access either guide from the television mode and vice versa. In the guide mode, the viewer may independently switch the guide information and the type of program, i.e., tuned or recorded, in the PIP window.
Abstract:
A removable data storage cartridge has a shock sense indicator attached to its housing. The indicator includes a sensing structure that reacts to a shock event over a specified threshold. The invention indicates a physical shock event upon appropriate inquiry by the reader mechanism. Upon detecting that a shocked data storage cartridge has been loaded into a data storage library, the library and/or data storage drive alerts the operator and/or system administrator and moves the shocked cartridge to a quarantine pool to prevent damage to the data storage drive.
Abstract:
An optical disc drive (ODD) includes a radio-frequency identification (RFID) reader. The reader includes a circuit and a coil antenna which has a rotational symmetry with respect to a rotation axis of a motor, shaft and turntable of the ODD. The coil antenna can be secured to a wall of a housing of the ODD or around the motor and/or shaft. The reader can read an RFID tag on an optical disc. The RFID tag includes a circuit and a coil antenna which has a rotational symmetry with respect to the disc. As a result, the RFID tag can be read while the disc is rotating. A magnetic insulating material such as a ferrite polymer composite film is used to magnetically insulate the coil antenna. An authentication code can be read from the RFID tag to control access to content of the optical disc.
Abstract:
Described is a tape library which can generally include a tape drive, a tape cartridge that possesses a medium auxiliary memory device, a device for reading information retained on the medium auxiliary memory device and a program that runs on a processor capable of manipulating information received by the reading device. The tape cartridge's medium auxiliary memory device can contain at least one record of a previous access event, such as an approximate point in time when the tape cartridge is loaded in the tape drive. The program may be operable to determine how much time has elapsed from the access event. Knowledge of the elapsed time can, among other things, cause an action to be taken relative to the tape cartridge and/or the data thereon. A method of using the system is also described.
Abstract:
A data storage cartridge comprises data storage media configured to store data for read and/or write access, wherein the data may be arranged in a plurality of partitions; and a plurality of cartridge memories. A control system, for example of a data storage drive, is configured to allocate at least portions of capacity of the data storage media to cartridge memories of the data storage cartridge; and to provide information defining the allocated portions of capacity to the cartridge memories. Each of the cartridge memories may have a separate user and thus provide access for that user to separate partitions.
