摘要： A display apparatus comprises: a rear plate which has an electron-emitting device; a face plate which has an anode electrode and a potential defining electrode; and a plate spacer which is opposite to the anode electrode and the potential defining electrode, between the rear plate and the face plate. An insulative base member of the spacer has a recessed portion which opposes to the anode electrode, the potential defining electrode, and a portion of the face plate between the anode electrode and the potential defining electrode. Thus, electric discharges between the spacer and the anode electrode and between the spacer and the potential defining electrode can be suppressed.

摘要： A spacer on which static electricity is restricted and an electron beam apparatus in which the spacer is provided. In the electron beam apparatus comprising an electron source provided with electron emission devices, a face plate provided with anodes and spacers installed between the electron source and the face plate, unevenness is formed on the surface of the spacer substrate, and further a thin film which has a smaller thickness than a roughness. This makes possible the restriction of incident angle multiplication coefficient for the primary electrons whose energy is lower than the second cross-point energy of a resistive film. The electron beam apparatus provided with the above spacer is excellent in display definition and long-term reliability since the display of light emission points and the creeping discharge accompanying the static electricity can be restricted due to the spacer.

摘要： A flat-panel display is fabricated by a process in which a spacer (24) having a rough face (54 or 56) is positioned between a pair of plate structure (20 and 22). When electrons strike the spacer, the roughness in the spacer's face causes the number of secondary electrons that escape the spacer to be reduced, thereby alleviating positive charge buildup on the spacer. As a result, the image produced by the display is improved. The spacer facial roughness can be achieved in various ways such as providing suitable depressions (60, 62, 64, 66, 70, 74, or 80) or/and protuberances (82, 84, 88, and 92) along the spacer's face.

The electron beam apparatus exhibits the excellent display quality which suppresses the displacement of the light emission point with the charge and the creeping discharge, and the long-period reliability.

According to the present invention, the spacer having a surface structure on which can suppress charging can be manufactured at a low cost, and an electron-beam apparatus such as an image-forming apparatus having a sufficient display luminance can also be manufactured.
