A diversity receiver capable of receiving a CDMA system (e.g., a W-CDMA system) and a TDMA system (e.g., a GSM system), with receive diversity for at least one system, is described. W-CDMA is often referred to as UMTS. In one design, the diversity receiver includes a first receiver for GSM and a second receiver for UMTS. The first receiver may be implemented with one receiver design, may be spec-compliant for GSM, and may also support UMTS. The second receiver may be implemented with another receiver design, may be spec-compliant for UMTS, and may also support GSM. The first receiver may include a lowpass filter having a bandwidth that is adjustable for GSM and UMTS. The second receiver may include a bandpass filter used to attenuate a transmit frequency range for UMTS. Each receiver may include circuit blocks that are used for both GSM and UMTS.

A scanning antenna diversity system for motor vehicles having at least two antennas disposed in a multi-antenna installation. The diversity system also contains a controllable logic circuitry, and a receiver for receiving a signal from the antennas. Connected to the receiver is a diversity processor controlled by the receiver, for stepping the logic circuitry to another switching position during the presence of reception interference. This occurs during the shortest possible comparison times, which are initiated in cyclic repetition upon expiration of a longer time interval by level comparison circuitry for detecting signals. In this case, the level comparison circuitry determines a maximum level switching position associated with the greater actual received signal in an actual receive situation. Thus, the level comparison time is selected sufficiently short so that the reception is not audibly impaired by the level comparison time. In addition, the diversity processor is designed so that the received signals are cyclically switched through to the receiver and tested for freedom from interference. This testing determines and detects the maximum level switching position associated with the greater actual received signal in addition to discrete switching positions of the logic circuitry, when the received signals are switched through to the receiver.

An antenna diversity system for receiving frequency-modulated (FM) radio signals with the phase-controlled summation of antenna signals for motor vehicles equipped with a multi-antenna system having at least two antenna output signals, and a receiver with an input for each of a first and a second received signal path, wherein the second of the two received signal paths contains a phase-shifter controlled by a phase-controller. The received signal has the same phase on the output of the phase-shifter as in the first signal path. The two received signals are added up in a phase-coincident manner in a summation circuit, and the added-up signal is supplied to the FM frequency modulator. The multi-antenna system contains a controllable logic circuit, so that a received signal that is different in terms of diversity, is supplied in each case to at least one of the two inputs of the receiver in different switching positions assumed by the selector switches, and the added-up signal is supplied to an interference detector for extremely rapid detection of an added-up signal disturbed by a frequency swing. Thus, in the presence of a reception interference, the interference-detecting signal of the interference detector actuates the logic switching device to another switching position, and wherein the phase-controller serves as a low-pass filter for limiting the speed of the phase control.

The receiving unit functions to demodulate the wave signal input thereto and to output a wave detection signal.
