    摘要: A protected passive optical communications system includes terminals, a main head end, and a back up head end allowing communication with the terminals when a fault occurs. The main and back up head ends transmit frames that include header and payload portions to the terminals. The main head end normally transmits control instructions in the header and user data in the payload. The back up head end, in response to a fault, transmits control instructions in the payload, and a control message in the header. The control message indicates control instructions in the payload. If a control message is in the header, each terminal interprets the payload as control instructions for changing operational attribute(s) of a terminal. If a control message is not in the header, each terminal interprets the payload as user data that it forwards to external user(s) external based on an address from the user data.

    摘要: The present disclosure provides improvements with respect to in-band control plane signaling, virtualized channels, and tandem connection monitoring in optical networks utilizing Synchronous Optical Network (SONET), Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH), Optical Transport Network (OTN), and the like. In an exemplary embodiment, the present disclosure includes an optical network operating a control plane with in-band signaling utilizing SONET/SDH path level overhead. In another exemplary embodiment, the present disclosure includes an optical network operating virtualized SONET/SDH or OTN channels with manually cross-connections at intermediate line terminating elements. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the present disclosure includes a tandem connection monitoring selection method across multiple operator domains.

    摘要: A signaling processor processes a first message to select a TDM connection for the call and transfers a second message indicating the selected TDM connection. The interworking unit receives the second message and user communications for the call in a packet format, converts the user communications from the packet format to a TDM format, and transfers the user communications in the TDM format over the selected TDM connection. The interworking unit monitors the user communications for a trigger after call set-up and during the call, and if the trigger is detected, transfers a third message indicating the trigger. The signaling processor receives and processes the third message to select routing information for routing the call to a service platform and transfers a fourth message indicating the selected routing information to route the call to the service platform.

The service packets belonging to a particular service flow carry an indication of a signaling function to be performed, while the one or more service flows form the signaling channel at the Ethernet level.

    摘要: Routing frames in a communication ring includes receiving an invitation at a proxy server of a node of a ring. The invitation indicates that a first endpoint is initiating a call to a second endpoint. An access device operable to communicate the call to the second endpoint is identified. The access device has a private network identifier uniquely identifying the access device within the ring. A media path to the access device is reserved. The private network identifier is inserted into frames received from the first endpoint in order to route the frames to the second endpoint through the media path.
