    摘要: A system and method for transmitting Frame Relay based communication over an ATM based network that includes a DSL link are disclosed. The Frame Relay based communication is mapped into ATM cells at a Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM). The mapping of the Frame Relay frames into ATM cells is carried in accordance with transparent mode or translation mode functionality provided in the DSLAM. The Frame Relay data may be mapped into the ATM cells pursuant to FRF.5, FRF.8, FRF.8.1, or other similar standards. The system and method may enable transparent propagation of the Frame Relay data across the DSL/ATM network, for receipt on the other end of the network by a Frame Relay compatible switch, or an ATM compatible switch.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for segmenting and forwarding data packets received in a communication switch is presented. The method begins by receiving a packet that includes a destination that determines forwarding parameters. As the packet is being received, segmentation cells are created from portions of the packet received where each segmentation cell is provided to a switching fabric as soon as creation of the segmentation cell is completed. When an end portion of the packet is received, verification of proper receipt of the packet is performed. When it is determined that the packet has been received successfully, a verification data set is generated based on segmentation cells that have been utilized to forward the packet. The verification data set is then included in a final segmentation cell that is provided to the switching fabric. Such a verification data set can then be used by an egress line card that receives the segmentation cells to verify proper receipt of the segmentation cells. If it is determined that the packet has not been successfully received, a purging data set is generated instead of the verification data set. Such a purging data set is then included in the final segmentation cell that is provided to the switching fabric, where the purging data set preferably causes any egress line card to purge the corrupted packet rather than forwarding it.

    摘要: A method, system and computer program product is provided which automatically detects multiprotocol encapsulation in a protocol data unit (PDU) to determine whether a Frame Relay/ATM service interworking function should operate in translation or transparent mode. A multiprotocol encapsulation detection module first reads a control field value in a received PDU. The control field value is then compared to a predetermined value representative of the presence of multiprotocol encapsulation in the PDU. An indication of the detected presence of multiprotocol encapsulation in the PDU is then provided when the control field value equals the predetermined value. An FR/ATM service interworking function module is then operated in translation mode when multiprotocol encapsulation has been detected and indicated. Otherwise, the FR/ATM service interworking function module is operated in transparent mode when multiprotocol encapsulation has not been detected.

    摘要: There is disclosed, for use in a data processing device containing a master processor and a slave processor, a mode selection circuit capable of selecting the operating mode of the slave processor. The mode selection circuit comprises a mode determination circuit capable of determining the current operating mode of the master processor and a mode control circuit capable of causing the slave processor to operate in a selected operating mode in response to the current operating mode of the master processor. The mode selection circuit causes the slave processor to boot up to a test program stored in a ROM coupled to the slave processor whenever the master processor is in a test mode. If the master processor is in a system application mode, the mode selection circuit causes the slave processor to execute a system application program stored in a RAM coupled to the slave processor.

    摘要: In one embodiment of the invention, an apparatus is provided for establishing a communication session between first and second terminals in communication over a plurality of networks that employ differing transmission standards. The plurality of networks are selected from among a circuit switched network (e.g., a telephony network), a connectionless packet switched network (e.g., the Internet) and a connection-oriented packet switched network (e.g., an ATM or frame relay network). The apparatus includes a call set-up translator for translating among call set-up protocols associated with the circuit switched network, the connectionless packet switched network and the connection-oriented packet switched network. An encoding format translator is provided for translating among encoding protocols associated with the circuit switched network, the connectionless packet switched network and the connection-oriented packet switched network. Also provided is an address database for storing a plurality of addresses in different formats for each registered terminal, which includes the first and second terminals. The apparatus also includes a session manager for storing control information relating to the first and second terminals. The control information includes an identification of the first and second terminals that participate in the communication session.

    摘要: A system and method for interworking between FR (frame relay) and ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) using permanent virtual circuits. An ATM VCC between two interworking functions is dedicated to FR LMI signalling traffic, while the FR data traffic is carried by ATM VCCs which do not carry any FR LMI signalling traffic. The FR data traffic of a given FR DLCI is carried by an ATM VCC having a service category and bandwidth parameters which reflect the transfer priority and bandwidth needs of the particular FR DLCI. This allows a high priority to be assigned to all LMI traffic carried over the ATM network independent of the priority assigned to the FR data traffic.

    摘要: A traffic control method can prevent that the number of cells transmitted to an ATM network exceeds a maximum transmission rate. When a frame F is transmitted from a frame relay network FR1 to an IWF, a traffic control part included in the frame relay network FR1 measures the transmission data quantity for a measuring time in a DLCI connecting the frame relay network FR1 and the IWF. Successively, the traffic control part detects a traffic restrictive level corresponding to the measured transmission data quantity. Then, the traffic restrictive process corresponding to the restrictive level is performed, and the frame transmission is controlled by the transmitted terminal of the frame F. Thus, it is prevented that the number of cells transmitted to the ATM network exceeds a determined maximum transmission rate.
