    摘要: A field sequential color display apparatus for sequentially displaying RGB field images so that a color frame image can be observed, comprising: an LCD display device for displaying RGB field images; a timing generation/control circuit for controlling the order of RGB field images to be displayed on the LCD display device; a pixel shifting unit for causing the beam of each pixel displayed on the LCD display device to be shifted by each frame image so as to enhance the resolution of image observed by a viewer; and an optical system for making it possible to display an image before shifted at the pixel shifting unit and an image after the shift. Among the RGB field images, the G field image having highest spectral luminous efficiency is displayed at an intermediate order within the frame images so that leakage thereof is not caused by the pixel shifting operation.

    摘要: A motor speed resolution enhancement method and system. A display system controller (202) measures the frame rate of an incoming signal to determine the desired color wheel speed. A digital speed control word (212) representing the desired color wheel speed is written to the motor control circuit (204). The motor control circuit uses the digital speed control word (212) to generate analog control voltages (214) that drive the motor (206). The motor controller (204) also detects the position of the motor and generates a series of commutation interrupts (216). The display system controller 202 accurately measures the input signal's frame rate to determine the proper rate at which to spin the color wheel. The resulting desired speed word has a higher resolution than the motor control circuit (204) is able to receive. The disclosed invention provides a method of increasing the resolution of the digital speed control word (212) without upgrading the resolution of the motor control circuit (204). The disclosed invention uses feedback signals from the motor control circuit (204) that occur several times each revolution to force an update of the digital speed control word (212). The periodically updated digital speed control word (212) is dithered so that the average digital speed control word value represents the desired speed of the motor.

    摘要: A dual-mode image display apparatus includes a black-and-white image display device and a selective filter. The selective filter is caused to assume a first mode in which it sequentially serves as red, green and blue filters, and a second mode in which it transmits all the color components. Thus, the image display apparatus can selectively perform color display or black-and-white display. The selective filter may include variable optical retarders and may be caused to selectively assume the first mode or the second mode through control over the variable optical retarders. The selective filter may alternatively be moved by a motor between a first position in which the filter is in the path of light from the display device to the viewer, and a second position in which the filter is out of the path of light. A power supply controller is also used to conserve power by turning unneeded parts of a color image processing circuit OFF when the display apparatus is in the second mode.

    摘要: A large screen image display device has a rear wall on which a plurality of striped vertical addressing electrodes are formed, a front wall to which a conductor and phosphor are laminated, and mutually spaced side walls to form an evacuated enclosure wherein the conductor and the addressing electrodes confront each other. Linear thermal cathodes are disposed in rows orthogonal to the addressing electrodes for emitting thermal-electrons. At least one modulation electrode is located between the thermal cathodes and addressing electrodes in parallel to the respective thermal cathode. Horizontal focusing deflection electrodes are arranged opposite to and in parallel to both sides of the thermal cathodes. A control circuit supplies control signals to the above mentioned electrodes for operating the device.

    摘要: A high brightness, field sequential color television display system utilizing electronically controlled color switching of ferro-electric ceramic wafers. The stationary filter provides a color change electronically and color switching is the result of selected retardations of the signals for each of the basic red, green and blue colors so that a rapid field sequential operation is performed. The system employs two polaroid filters, the polarizer and the analyzer, with a ceramic material positioned intermediate thereto, to control the polarization of the light passing through it by the desired amounts and therefore provide the primary colors. Wavelength selection over a relatively narrow bandwidth is thus achieved by using a material with the property to obtain angles for transmission as a function of the wavelength. The color image is formed in the field sequential fashion by placing the spectral filter in front of a cathode ray tube and observing the various intensities of white light on the face of the tube through the composite filter.
