    摘要: Exemplary piston assemblies and methods of making the same are disclosed. An exemplary piston assembly may include a piston crown and a piston skirt that is received in a central opening of the crown. The piston crown may include a ring belt portion defining, at least in part, a cooling gallery. The crown and skirt may each further include corresponding mating surfaces that extend about a periphery of the crown and skirt. The skirt mating surface and crown mating surface may generally be secured to each other that the crown and the skirt cooperate to form a continuous upper combustion bowl surface. The skirt and crown may cooperate to define a radially outer gap about a periphery of the piston crown.

    摘要: Variable displacement pistons are produced wherein hollow piston bodies are integrally formed with associated actuator arms to ensure proper alignment of the bodies and rods. The process utilizes a two-axis press to first form a pair of actuator arms by working a blank of metallic material along a first axis between opposing members of a die assembly. With the die assembly still closed after formation of the actuator arms, a pair of hollow piston bodies are formed by extruding the remainder of the blank of metallic material along a second axis. The hollow piston bodies are axially aligned and integrally formed with respective ones of the actuator arms. A piston head is welded to the end of each hollow piston body which is then machined. By separating the actuator arms from one another, a pair of variable displacement compressor pistons having hollow piston bodies axially aligned and integrally formed with respective actuator arms are thus formed.

The solid coolant has a thermal conductivity which is greater than the thermal conductivity of the steel material and fills at least 15 volume percent (vol. %) of the cooling gallery. The solid coolant provides for exceptional cooling along a crown of the piston, reduces corrosion and erosion along the crown, and avoids the problem of oil coking.

    摘要: The invention relates to a coolable annular support (1) for internally cooled piston rings, comprising an annular body (2) embodied as a circular ring and a cooling channel plate (3), the cooling channel plate (3) being a component of the cooling channel, and a method for the production thereof. The components forming the annular body (2) and the cooling channel plate (3) are connected together by means of laser beams from at least one laser in a continuous wave operation. The cooling channel plate (3) is U-shaped and has openings (6) which act as an inlet or an outlet for the cooling material in conjunction with tubular-shaped bodies. It is possible to simultaneously compensate variations in volume by different air temperatures during welding. At least one edge of the annular body (2) and the cooling channel plate form a cavity (5) for the cooling material by connecting the end areas of the limbs of the cooling channel plate to said edge of the annular body (2). The connections of the annular body (2) and the cooling channel plate (3) takes place by means of one or more overlapping weld seams (4), so that a sealing connection between said two components is guaranteed.
