    摘要: A piston for an internal combustion engine includes a piston head and a piston skirt, wherein the piston head has a piston base, a circumferential ring part and, in the region of the ring part, a circumferential closed cooling channel or sealed cavity. An inner side of the piston has two lower surfaces which transform continuously in the region of the piston central axis (M) to form an arched surface. The piston skirt has piston hubs provided with hub bores which are interconnected by means of running surfaces which have inner surfaces facing the inside of the piston. Starting from the free ends of the piston skirt, inside the piston on the pressure side (DS) and/or counter pressure side (GDS), an inner surface of a running surface continuously transforms into a guiding surface for a coolant which transforms continuously on the side thereof into a lower surface.

    摘要: A piston for an internal combustion engine and method of construction thereof is provided. The piston has a piston body including an upper part and a lower part. The upper part has an upper combustion surface configured for direct exposure to combustion gases within a cylinder bore with an undercrown surface beneath the upper combustion surface. The body has a ring belt region configured for receipt of at least one piston ring adjacent the upper combustion surface with an annular cooling gallery configured radially inwardly from the ring belt region. The cooling gallery has a floor, wherein the floor has at least one through opening. A coolant medium is disposed in the cooling gallery, and a sealing member is disposed in the at least one through opening to seal off the coolant medium in the coolant gallery.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine and piston therefor is provided. The piston has a body including an upper combustion wall, a cylindrical outer wall including a ring belt region depending from the upper combustion wall, and a pair of pin bosses having axially aligned pin bores. The piston has a first cooling gallery in radial alignment with the ring belt region with a cooling medium contained therein. An insert member is fixed to the body in axially spaced relation beneath a lower wall of the first cooling gallery. The insert member bounds a second cooling gallery beneath the lower wall of the first cooling gallery. The insert member has an inlet opening configured to allow oil to flow into the second cooling gallery against the lower wall of the first cooling gallery and a separate outlet opening configured to allow the oil to flow outwardly from the second cooling gallery.

    摘要: A piston ring and piston assembly designed for operation with the piston skirt fully flooded with oil and with the piston rings operating as fully hydrodynamic sliders is disclosed. Geometries of rings and piston skirt are arranged to conform elastically to the real out-of-round deformations of cylinder walls in such a fashion as to maximize the advantages of full film lubrication physics. The rings are loaded in circumferential compression and are flexible. This elastic configuration makes the rings conform instantaneously to cylinder wall out-of-round to a scale of microinches. This conformability is required to maintain oil control (zero oil pumping to the top of the cylinder wall) with fully hydrodynamic conditions between the rings and the cylinder wall. The piston has a piston skirt which is flexible enough to conform to cylinder wall out-of-round and maximize squeeze film effects. The piston skirt is arranged to superimpose squeeze film and pivoted pad slider physics. The piston is equipped with a heat piped internal heat transfer structure which maintains the piston in a near isothermal condition. The piston skirts are nearly isothermal. This controls expansion for improved hydrodynamic geometry. The great majority of heat transfer from the piston crown to the cylinder passes through the piston skirt oil film to the cylinder wall. The assembly utilizes component deformations to maximize hydrodynamic and squeeze film lubrication effects to minimize engine friction and wear.
