摘要: A method of assembling a sand screen assembly includes the steps of providing inner and outer shrouds having radial protrusions, such as ribs, louvers, splines, etc., that are radially unaligned during a first assembly step thereby providing clearance for positioning of a filter layer between the shrouds. The outer or inner shroud is then rotated until the protrusions are aligned and the clearance between the shrouds and filter layer is eliminated to provide a tight fit between the layers.

摘要: Non conductive supports flank the mounting location of ribs for a wire wrap screen so as to limit penetration into the wire being fed over the ribs and resistance welded notwithstanding variations of applied force from the weld roller. Optionally the wire can be pre-rolled to approximately its end diameter in the finished screen ahead of the time it contacts a rib so as to minimize bending the wire over the rib which thins the wire. The supports are preferably ceramic and provide equal penetration of the rib into the wrap wire despite variations in loading by the weld roller.

The method comprises subjecting the surface of the pipe or tube to bombardment by a quantity of shot of a pre-determined size and for a pre-determined length of time to cause deformation of the surface of the pipe or tube adjacent to the slots therein so that the width of the slots is reduced to within a pre-determined size range.

摘要: A braided strainer for a draw line, and method of forming same. The strainer comprises a frame in the form of a pair of spaced planar plates, one being a solid end plate and the other having a control aperture. A plurality of spaced, parallel rods of similar length are positioned near the peripheries of the plates and secured and extending between the plates. A plurality of cylindrical walls of braided strands of strainer medium, are provided, the braided cylindrical walls having similarly spaced rod-receiving holes extending longitudinally in spaced fashion through the strands of strainer medium. These walls are contiguously stacked on the plates to extend between them. The plate having the central aperture permits flow of fluid drawn through the cylindrical walls during operation of the strainer. That plate has associated with it a connector to releasably secure the strainer to a mating connector on a free end of the draw line.

摘要: An expandable well screen has a desirable thin-wall construction together with a simplified fabrication method. In fabricating the screen, a flexible sheet of metal mesh filter media is diffusion bonded to an inner side of a perforated metal sheet which is then deformed to a tubular shape to form a filter structure having an outer perforated tubular shroud interiorly lined with the filter media. The tubular filter structure is telescoped onto a perforated base pipe and has its opposite ends sealingly secured thereto to complete the expandable well screen.

摘要: The invention relates to the formation of an article which is wholly formed with a thread formation or includes a portion which is threaded. The threaded portion is formed by winding a wire in a helical path around a series of spaced support members. The wire forms the thread and also forms a slot in a helical path between adjacent portions of the wound wire. A suitable threaded member can then be introduced to the article and selective rotation causes relative movement of the threaded member along the threaded portion. The article can be used as a filter medium, a securing means and the like and the wire used is typically triangular in cross section and known as wedge wire.

摘要: A screen media (200) for use in screening pulp slurry has a first side (204) and a second side (206). The pulp slurry is fed from the first side of the screen media to the second side of said screen media through a plurality of screening passages (205). Each said screening passage include a contour cut (210) formed in the first side, a back groove (208) formed in the second side, and a residual thickness (234) between the contour cut and the back groove. An elongate slot (235) is formed in the residual material, and the residual thickness has a substantially uniform thickness about the elongate slot. Where the slot extends completely through the residual material it defines a through-slit (236) through which slurry flows and is filtered.

摘要: A method of manufacture of a radial-flow filter particularly suitable for use as an input filter in a subterranean fluid (oil, gas, water) well starts with a length L of multi-perforate pipe, which may be an integral part of the production tubing of the well. The pipe is mounted in an engine lathe with the perforated length L between the headstock and the tailstock of the lathe. With the pipe rotating, a strip of metal wool, preferably stainless steel wool, is wrapped around the pipe in repeated, overlapping helical layers each aligned at an acute angle X to the pipe axis, with adjacent layers angularly displaced by an angle 2X. The completed filter may have a tubular wire mesh around the pipe, between the pipe and the innermost layer of steel wool, and a multi-perforate sheath over the outermost layer of wool.
