摘要: A non-rotary shaping method (700, 800, 900) and shaping center (600) for forming a part using a non-rotating cutting tool (400) for removing material from a non-rotating workpiece within a three-dimensional work envelope that obsoletes the use of mills for profiling operations. Without the need to rotate to produce sufficient surface footage to remove material, the cutting tool (400) applies constant cutting force to the workpiece along a one-, two-, or three-dimensional cutting path. Also, without the need to rotate, neither the cutting tool nor the part are constrained in shape by axial symmetrical. Therefore, parts without any restriction in shape can be produced with finer surface finishes and higher material removal rates than by milling.

摘要: A process of machining a scroll member of a scroll compressor by using a non-rotary cutting tool. The non-rotary cutting tool is moved relative to a workpiece in a predetermined direction for cutting the workpiece, with its rake face being held substantially perpendicular to the predetermined direction. The cutting tool includes (a) a generally cylindrical shank portion, and (b) a generally semi-cylindrical body portion which has an outer circumferential surface constituted by the rake face and a semi-cylindrical surface. The semi-cylindrical body portion has a cutting edge which is defined by an edge of the rake face and which is covered with a diamond coating. The rake face has a planar surface and a constant width throughout the cutting edge.

摘要: Apparatus for cutting ''''blind'''' arcuate slots in a workpiece, e.g., the seal slots required for the rotors of rotary combustion (''''Wankel'''') engines. An access hole is drilled at the beginning and end of the proposed slot which is cut with a rotating cutter having cutting blades which are movable axially, relative to the face of the cutter, from a retracted non-cutting position to an extended cutting position. The blades rotate with the cutter and are ''''popped out'''' to their cutting position during their passage across the beginning access hole and, similarly, are retracted during their passage across the access hole at the slot end. In the preferred apparatus, extension and retraction of the cutter blades is controlled by a cam-and-hydraulic system which causes each successive blade to ''''pop out'''' the same predetermined distance, in-feed being accomplished by moving the entire cutting apparatus axially toward the workpiece until a full-depth position is reached. The cam-and-hydraulic system is specially designed to accomplish rapid blade movement and to suppress bouncing by blades ''''popped out'''' for cutting.

In order to reduce the time taken for the finishing by means of a reamer to be performed, it is proposed to use a tool in the form of an impact die, which is formed at the front end with a circular or substantially circular cutting edge, the diameter of which corresponds to the nominal diameter of the bore to be produced, and which tapers from directly behind the cutting edge or behind a front region of a certain length.

An axis of the cutting spindle is offset from and at substantially right angles to the axis of the sleeve. A device supports the cutting spindle for angular reciprocation to effect cutting strokes of the cutting tool relative to the surface of the bore.
