    摘要: A latch mechanism secures a residual limb to an artificial limb in a comfortable and substantially non-rotational manner. The latch mechanism offers relatively-proximal anchoring of a residual limb in a hard socket, rather than the conventional distal attachment, resulting in ease of donning and doffing of the socket by an amputee. The proximal attachment feature requires no clearance in the bottom of the socket “well” as no part of the latch mechanism is located between the distal end of the residual limb and the bottom inside of the well. The latch mechanism is disposed entirely along the side of the limb and the side of the socket, and extends from the liner on the limb a short distance inside the socket before exiting to the outside of the socket for locking onto the socket side surface. Even though the latch mechanism extends through an aperture in the wall of the socket, a tight gel suction wrap or other seal around the aperture still allows for a reliable suction fit.

    摘要: A cylindrical housing has a flange at an exterior end, male threads in an external surface remote from the flange, and a small axial hole, and female threads in an internal surface remote from the flange. A disk shaped fastener has internal threads rotatably supported upon the male threads of the housing. The fastener rotates to secure a prosthetic limb adjacent to the flange for operation and use and to allow separation of the limb from the housing. A cup-shaped end plug has a side wall with male threads receivable in the female threads of the housing and an end face with an axial opening. A plug with a pull string is positionable within a partly spherical surface adjacent to the interior end of the housing. A coil spring is positioned between the end plug and the spherical plug.

    摘要: A hypobarically-controlled artificial limb for amputees includes a single socket with a volume and shape to receive a substantial portion of the residual limb. A liner with a volume less than the residual limb is donned over the residual limb, with the liner tensioned into a total contact relationship with the residual limb. A sealed cavity is formed between the socket and the liner. A vacuum source is connected to the socket cavity thereby drawing the residual limb and liner into firm and total contact with the socket. To compensate for some air leakage past the seal, there is a mechanism to maintain the vacuum in the cavity.

    摘要: The present invention provides a locking device intended as a fastening element for prostheses, of the kind in which the prosthesis is attached to a cylindrical member. The locking device includes a housing with a through opening for receiving the cylindrical member and a locking mechanism arranged therein for locking to the cylindrical member in one axial direction thereof. In the housing along the through opening of the housing opposite the locking mechanism there is further arranged a spring-loaded gripping washer with a through opening which is somewhat larger than the diameter of the cylindrical member and which by an axle having a lever arm is brought to an inclined position and grips the cylindrical member and pulls the cylindrical member further into the housing.

    摘要: A system and method for releasably securing a prosthetic limb to a residual limb. The system and method utilizes a lanyard for drawing the residual limb into a receiving portion of the prosthetic limb and for helping to maintain attachment of the prosthetic limb to the residual limb. The lanyard is routed through a releasable ratchet mechanism, which allows tension to be incrementally applied to the lanyard and further prevents the lanyard and the residual limb connected thereto from moving in an opposite direction. A suction cup may also be employed within the receiving portion of the prosthetic limb for aiding in retention of the residual limb. The ratchet mechanism allows the system to be used without maintaining constant tension on the lanyard, thereby reducing the amount of effort required of the user. The system and method also reduces or even eliminates pistoning of the residual limb within the prosthetic limb during movement of the user.
